Tight in 36" cabinet - beautiful, strong, quiet - baffles rust after 4mon - amazing customer service
* * 4 month update - - sorry to say that the baffles have already started to rust! This was installed in July, used lightly until mid August, then we went out of town for 3 months. It's December now and I just noticed lots of rust spots on 2 of the 3 baffles.I've probably cooked less than a dozen times since this hood was installed so there's no way the rust is something that could be considered "normal".I emailed Firegas, asked to purchase replacement baffles, but was told they do not sell just the baffle replacements.Initially, I was offered a small refund and was told that the rust would not affect performance at all.My issue with this was that if this rust showed up after only 4 months, then as it spreads, it soon will affect functionality. On top of that, this is a brand new hood in my newly renovated kitchen and it already looks old. That's not something that a small refund can assuage. After several pleasant back-and-forths, they agreed to send me out replacement baffles.* * * Unbelievable, unexpected and thrilled with the level of customer service this company has provided.Still love the hood. Disappointed in the rust. Hoping it's just a one-off defect and the new baffles will have better durability. Impressed & pleased with their customer service that always responded within a day - - - sometimes within hours - - - with a pleasant tone and attitude that showed their desire to stand by their product.* *Our contractor had to stress his creative side to fit this into our 36x12x15 cabinet. Though the specs say this is the minimum sized cabinet it will fit in, it took some work and creativity to make it happen. That being said, it's beautiful and works great too. Form and function in one.Notes:- although many insert hoods allow for the lip of the frame to show (much like an upside down drop in/self-rimming sink), this one has screws on the front of the plate that would be visible unless the entire hood is recessed into the cabinet. Our contractor installed the insert with the lip showing, then fashioned a thin 1/2" strip to cover the face and blend with the cabinet. It shows if the cabinet doors are open, but is not noticeable at all with the cabinet doors closed.- realize that the hood takes up 90% of the cabinet so there is no room for storage in there at all.- the 6" duct needs at least 8" height for 90degree installation, so vertical ducting works best if you're limited in vertical clearance within your cabinet. We had to first go vertical up into attic space, then 90degree bend in the attic out thru the exterior wall.- quiet enough on low & med power to still even have a comfortable conversation, yet venting power is still awesome. We cook seafood a lot, and even with our old hood on high (super loud) power, we could still smell fish in the house the next morning. With this hood on medium power, there is no odor even later on that same evening.- love the inset design with nothing jutting out into head space. I can't tell you how many times I'd banged my head on our old, undercabinet hood that jutted out at just the perfect height to line up with my forehead.- bonus lights that are way sufficient enough to cook by and sometimes all I need without having to turn on the rest of the kitchen overhead lights- clean and modern design without led display panels. This is just personal preference, but I really wanted buttons instead of a display panel. The look is minimal and clean and easy to manipulate without looking.I wish it had :- it would be awesome if the lights were either dimmable or at least had dim/med/bright settings b/c it would be great to leave the lights on dim for as a night light.Very happy.

Exceptional Airflow and Performance!
The media could not be loaded. I recently upgraded my kitchen with this new range hood insert, and I couldn't be happier! The airflow capacity is absolutely amazing, even when I'm using my pressure cooker. It efficiently removes steam, smoke, and odors, leaving my kitchen fresh and comfortable.Installation was straightforward, and the sleek design fits perfectly with my kitchen aesthetics. The variable speed settings are a fantastic feature, allowing me to adjust the airflow based on my cooking needs. I love how quiet it operates at lower speeds, making it easy to have a conversation while cooking.Overall, this range hood insert has exceeded my expectations. If you're looking for a powerful and stylish solution for your kitchen, I highly recommend giving this a try! It truly makes a difference in maintaining a clean and pleasant cooking environment.

This is a ducted range hood
The description says ducted and ductless but it only has a duct on the top of it for the air to exit. This is something far too many manufacturers state. But a true ductless hood has vent on the front for air to flow back into your kitchen. It does come with 2 charcoal filters for the inlet to the motor so you can recirculate the air back into your kitchen like a ductless hood will do. But you will need to make a path for the air to flow. If you mount this tight to the bottom of a cabinet I just don't see how it would work. That being said it does work well. It's quieter than the hood I'm replacing. Over all I would say that you can easily hear it but it's not loud enough to be a bother. On high it has a slight vibration that I don't think will be noticed once it's properly mounted. But it does sound like every other squirrel cage fan. The fan moves a lot of air. I don't have a way to measure the airflow so I can't confirm that it will move 600CFM but it's not weak. For ducted applications the extra flow will be nice. The box has lots of warnings about being heavy but it's not very heavy. The motor is the only part that has any real weight. I was easily able to pick it up with one hand. However I wouldn't try to install it by myself. The sheetmetal is about the same thickness as every other hood I've dealt with. If you lose control of it while installing it and it falls you will dent it (or worse). This is designed for a wider oven, not the standard 30" that most people have. Check to make sure you have the width needed before ordering it.Operation is pretty simple. There's 5 push buttons on the front edge of the bottom. One for the two LED lights, and 4 for the 3 fan speeds. The light button stays in when pushed (light on) and then you push it again (like a pen) and it comes back out (light off). The fan speed is the 3 middle buttons. Which ever one is pushed in is the speed it's running at. When you push the right button (fan off) it resets all the buttons to the extended position. The labeling for the fan speeds is just an image of a fan blade. The thicker the blade the higher the air flow. The switches aren't a panel mounted onto the face of the fan. Instead they are seamlessly mounted that gives a much cleaner look. There's no fancy display to fail down the road that offers useless information. It's over your range so you most likely don't need another clock. You can easily see which switch is pushed in so you don't need a display telling you which setting you pushed. I would like to see the electrical connectors inside the hood be the watertight ones used in automobiles (they look like the standard ones found in ovens) since you'll be using this while boiling water. However I think it'll still give decades of service the way it's built. The LED lighting works well enough. I wouldn't mind seeing 4, not 2, lights. Maybe 2 per side and a switch for each side. I don't think you can have too much light when cooking. The 3 grease traps come out easily for cleaning. They don't require replacing down the road when full of grease. Simply remove them, soak them in warm water or just put them in your dishwasher. The charcoal filters that go inside the exhaust duct could be much harder to change. They will need replacing down the road. I didn't measure them but I did see some at the national chain hardware store that look identical.

Blue plastic impossible to get off
The whole thing I covered in blue plastic and it is most impossible to remove.

Love the fan and lighting
We're super happy with this insert. It was an inexpensive option and works beautifully. We built a box to surround it from plywood and painted it; looks great.

Great modern range hood!
Got this range hood to replace the one that came with our house when we bought it and it's an immediate upgrade! It's big and works incredibly well! All the steam and fumes from cooking get vented straight up and out of the home! The lights are good on it as well! They could be brighter, but they're still an upgrade! It's a bit of a process to install, so make sure you understand what you're doing before attempting.
