In Nepal the monsoon season starts in mid-June and runs into September. Serious mountaineering calls for gear that is light in weight and heavy on performance attributes. The Assar satisfies these conditions with flying colors. In fact, we worked with our alpine athletes to design it. Made of Pertex Shield, a 2.5-layer laminate that's water- and wind-resistant, breathable and super light, its fit is streamlined and the details keep in mind the "minimalist" mindset of serious climbers. The cut is long and the rear hem dips slightly for coverage in forward-leaning and overhead-reaching positions. Assar is Nepalese for both monsoon and month.

For some reason the images used for the grey monsoon ...
For some reason the images used for the grey monsoon colored jacket are incorrect or old because the jacket I received is a darker grey with hot pink zippers.

Thin material, zipper is pink not orange
The picture shows an orange zipper but the one I received had a bright hot pink zipper. I would've never bought it had I known. I also didn't love the material, it was very thin and had kind of a plasticity, garbage-bag kinda feel. I think this jacket would get very clammy.

This jacket is great to take on a climb or for a run where it might rain. Its super lightweight and very packable. A must have in every pack!
