Pen doesn't work for long
I love the idea of this product, but unfortunately, the pen that tells you if you got the answer right, malfunctions. So it is no longer useable and therefore no longer fun.

kid had fun
my kid loves to play with it, simple to play and yet can learn a few things along the way

Fun for years
My older child received this as a gift when she was 4. She loved it and it was time well spent together as you need an adult/reader to read the questions to the child. She revisited the books once she could read and liked it all over again. Now, my younger child enjoys them and is just beginning to read. She loves using the pen and spending time with mommy. She is trying to sound out the words and read the books herself; some of this she can do as several of the questions are "color" coded to help. The pen does leave black marks on the pages, but you still can't tell which star is the answer because the stars are black and don't change based on the pen. There are, however, some stars that require very specific positioning to make the pen mark it correct.

Fun books but lacking
I bought this for my son who just turned 2, thinking he might be able to use it early. He knows his letters and counts to 20 but these books require reasoning he doesn't have yet. I thought I could work with him and ask him simpler questions. The questions in the book are quite advance, and there isn't always a way that you can reword them to help a younger child pick the correct picture. This is a good thing (but not for my purpose!). The stars that need to be ticked are very small, making it difficult for a child who has not yet developed these motor skills. I'm hoping that once my son gets the concept he'll practice and learn. That in mind, the product says 3+ so I am not removing stars for that reason.Pros:+My son really likes the pictures and flips through the books+The questions are good and will help with intuitive thinkingCons:-Pen leaves little marks on the pages-Sometimes when you click the correct answer it gives negative responses-Stars to click are very small, I think this will cause issues for even older children

Great books but....
The books are colorful, fun, sturdy, easy to turn pages. Three year old enjoyed them. The pen worked for awhile but doesn't now even after battery was changed. Is there a way to get a replacement pen?

not as great as I had hoped :(
The idea behind this set is great however the execution leaves a lot to be desired. The pen has a black rubber tip which leaves marks all over the pages. This defeats the purpose of making this something to be used over and over because answers are clearly marked taking the guesswork out of which one to choose (unless of course if you make a point of marking each answer?). Also, children need to place the pen on the star next to the correct picture to get correct feedback. Some of the stars are oddly placed and could be confusing as to which picture a particular star is referencing. Would have been a better design to have the picture itself give feedback or at least put the star on the picture. If the pen tip is not directly on the star the feedback is negative even if the child knows the correct answer and attempted to touch the correct star. When I called customer service I was told to return the product to seller. The representative was abrupt and acted like she didn't care (most are trained to at least say, "I'm sorry to hear you're having a problem with our product". She stated she had never heard of any problems with the product in two years (the product was only produced less than a year ago). Anyway, poor customer service aside, I would not recommend this product, except for the beautiful and fun illustrations by Eric Carle and the question format used.

Excellent if you know what to expect from it
This works very well if you understand how the activity works. I do admit this should be fleshed out more in the parents guide. First off, bear in mind that this is not an independent activity. Starfall will be a much better choice if you need something independent. With the Quiz It Pen, "Let's Learn Together" you need to read the questions aloud. This is okay, and even excellent. You can know directly what your child finds easy and what she finds challenging. You see it immediately and can discuss the problem with your child. There's no vagueness. The questions range from dead easy to fairly advanced. Again, since children are all over the bell curve at this point, that's not necessarily a bad thing. The questions in this kit have a surprising amount of comprehension questions, such as "Which animal is UNDER the turtle?" or "What flies at night but is not a bird?" The pictures are beautiful and not the typical jarring cartoony cheapness of Leapfrog. I see in many Quiz It Pen reviews, the pen stops working quickly. We haven't had this problem yet, but I do not allow my son to play with the pen (not easy with a 3 year old) and I am worried about the material in the correct stars wearing away. So this might not be a product that is built to last, and thus is rather expensive for something that will wear out quickly. I would not use this as a center in a classroom because of that problem. But if you can get it on sale or as a gift, it's definitely worth using.

Still Loves It After 3 Months
I think it is worth the price. For now only one book and part of another book are at his level which seems sufficient. It requires parent engagement to read questions and to somewhat avoid marks all over the pages. He memorized some answers but that's ok. It builds his confidence. I've spent more money on other toys/books that brake more easily become dull more quickly and don't nearly offer the same bonding experience. Big plus....the beautiful art makes it less boring for parents too.
