Beautifully handcrafted piece of furniture to be enjoyed for years to come.
We've had our Caravan crib in raw maple for about two years now and recently converted it to the toddler bed/daybed with the divan conversion kit that we also purchased at the time. We LOVE this crib. It is beautifully handmade, beautifully designed, and ours is totally solid -- high quality materials and craftsmanship. It's quite sturdy -- our daughter often climbed in and out of the crib starting around 18m old so it was time to convert. The raw maple has held up superbly in a variety of conditions -- our home is in the redwoods and has to handle dry, wood-stove heat, dampness, and some cold periods when we're away. This bed still looks brand new, and we've moved it to two rooms, adjusted the mattress height, and converted it. After she grows out of the toddler bed, we plan to use it as a divan/sofa/daybed in a playroom, so it'll be a long lasting furniture piece in our home, as opposed to cribs that only last 1-3 years and then passed on.I'm disappointed to read about the issues others have had with theirs (I realize there was a long wait period at one point when the company got a lot of press and had a bit backordered for a time). However, we had no missing parts, no problems with alignment of pieces, and my husband and his friend built it in less than an hour together. The height adjustment was super simple when it was time for us to lower the crib, and recently, we converted the crib with absolutely no issues. We purchased directly from the company in fall of 2014. I also own a couple of other pieces of furniture from Kalon, and we've been happy with all of our purchases. I've attached photos.

What a beautiful piece! We love the sturdy construction
What a beautiful piece! We love the sturdy construction, the simple look and the durability of this crib. We have had it for over a year now and we love it even more than the first night that we put our sweet boy in it to sleep.

Manufacturer is terrible - buyer beware
This is not a rating on the seller, but the manufacturer, Kalon Studios. I purchased a $1k crib from them in 2011. It arrived defective with missing internal hardware needed to put the crib together. I sent photos, made many phone calls and at the manufacturer's admission, the crib was not manufactured correctly or finished. They refused to do an exchange or refund and instead said that they'd mail me defective parts piecemeal. This required countless hours of e-mails, sending photos to determine which parts were good, and which were not. After wasting countless days and hours, to no avail, we gave up. We were not going to put our brand new baby into a defective crib. And Kalon Studios would not budge. We were out $1k. Sometimes a big ticket price does NOT mean quality product OR quality customer service. Buyer beware.

Terrible experience with kalon studios
I purchased this crib in September 2014 in the white color along with the conversion kit to turn it into a toddler bed. When I purchased everything I was told that I could buy an additional base in the future in case I had another child and wanted to use the crib and toddler siding at the same time.Overall, we've been fairly happy with the crib. I had a handy friend help with set up and with changing the height so I didn't deal with putting it together like some of the other reviewers. However, I'm ready to switch my son to the toddler siding and I'm pregnant again so I contacted the company to purchase another base. It turns out they changed manufacturers and the new bases they make are not compatible with the old sides. So I spent 1k on the crib and around $550 on a toddler conversion already. Back in 2014 I had been told a new base would be $350. When I spoke to the company a few weeks ago they offered to sell me a toddler bed for $695. So basically if I want to use the system for 2 kids I now have to spend $695 instead of $350! Considering how much I've already spent that is ridiculous. The company has been non responsive to my repeated requests to discuss the matter. At this point it feels like they pulled a bait and switch on me. I'm in the process of filing a complaint with the better business bureau. I loved the idea of a non toxic crib made in the USA. If I had to do it again I would purchase a crib from a company with a better reputation and good customer service. There are more options out there now for non toxic and USA made cribs and many cute cribs to choose from. No one needs these kinds of headaches when they are expecting a baby or are new parents. I suggest looking elsewhere.

Manufacturing Issues -- worth the $$?
This crib was a gift from my mother-in-law. If it weren't for that fact I would have sent it back the same day it arrived. Very rough finish, chipped edges, pre-drilled holes not lined up, missing parts, the list of annoyances goes on and on. I expect this level of quality from Ikea furniture, not from a ~$1000 piece with a 3-month lead time. Once it is put together it is a nice, attractive crib. Whether or not it's worth the money depends on what you expect for $1,000. That's a lot of money to me, so I expected more.I shared my issues with Kalon's customer service last year and found them to be mostly helpful. I'm writing this review now because I just lowered the mattress deck, which meant reliving the whole nightmare assembly experience all over again.

Great Crib, Fantastic Finish, READ THIS REVIEW!!!
First, let me state that we purchased our Caravan directly from Kalon, just want to put that out there. However we reviewed Amazon extensively before we did purchase, and only went directly through Kalon because the color we desired was not available on Amazon. The fit, finish, and quality of the wood is very good, and after assembly (which is fairly straightforward, but somewhat difficult) we are very impressed with the overall crib.My thoughts are this...The only complaint one can have is that the cheap Allen wrenches included with the kit will strip easily and potentially ruin your build experience. So let me state this...If you are purchasing a $1000 crib, go ahead and invest in a quality set of ball-end Allen wrenches, heck spend another $50. Your installation experience will be all the better and you won’t worry about ruining a fastener.Kalon makes a great product and to this point I have no other complaints.
