Since there were some negative reviews about how the pad doesn't lay flat completely, I was pretty nervous about ordering this. I ended up biting the bullet and waited, as soon as I saw how it was packaged (which it was rolled up in a long box) my heart sunk so I took it upstairs in my office/studio and tried to see how much of it would tent up and not lay flat on my custom table I just finished assembling.The result of it from being rolled up was not cool but I decided to try something and ended up getting a hair dryer and turned it up on the highest heat setting, from there I started to spot treat the tented up parts and everything started to lay down flat!! and a plus it made it stay in place but no stickiness! You can use a heat gun too but just enough to get the troublesome parts to lay down flat!I'm happy with my purchase and will update if anything changes, plus I'll try to upload a photo as well.

Absolute trash. It’s a cheap plastic mat. Does not resemble leather in look or feel. A complete waste of money. This thing will cheapen the look of anything you put it on. It’s not worth $3 let alone $30. Garbage. I’m quickly losing faith in Amazon’s star review system. No way tho should be rated as highly as it is. I could not be less satisfied. I’m returning this immediately. Save your money.

I am not sure if I am more disappointed in this product or in my own gullibility.First - my intentions in buying this $31.00 product:My wife and I have two matching computer desks in our house. Both of them are fairly nice looking, but because they were relatively "economical"(Chinese origin), the desk surfaces had quickly begun to show scuffs in the plastic wood grain veneer. Based on the mat's description (PU Leather), I thought I was getting some form of leather product. Imagine my surprise when I found out PU Leather means cheap thin smelly PLASTIC with small leather-like pattern embossed into the surface.I knew I was in for a disappointment when the shipping box arrived. It was 2' longby about 4 " square. The entire mat was so thin it was rolled up inside it - not a good sign when you're expecting a leather mat.So I went back to the ad and among other things, realized that the ad never addresses the thickness (which is actually only a hair over 1/16"!).I then looked up PU Leather and found out it is only Polyurethane plastic. Stupid me for not doing deep research before trusting an Amazon product ad copy.This was clearly my own mistake, so I'm not going to return the mat. I will use it and look at it every day to remind me that you simply can't trust product descriptions just because Amazon publishes them.The ad copy was technically true. It was NOT false advertizing. IT was, however, very deceptive advertizing.I am also hard-pressed to believe that this plastic sheet, which could not have cost the manufacturer more than $4 or $5 to produce, could be worth the $31 purchase price

The mat has a strong plastic odor when first taken out of the packaging, but that quickly dissipates. It is easy to cut to shape, and it lies flat on the desk surface. It looks and feels like leather. I liked it so much, I bought a second one to place on nightstands. I strongly recommend this product.

I cut this to fit my desk top and I really like the look. Works very well as a mouse pad and I've had no problems writing on a single piece of paper on this pad. I am a smoker and if I drop any ash at all on this it shows up very bad but it wipes up easy so not a real complaint just know it will show dirt easy. I plan on buying another to cover the raised sections of my computer desk and I would recommend it to friends. I think its a bit over priced but I think that about most things these days.

Flatness: It comes rolled up in a long 3" x 3" box so doesn't lie flat at all initially. After two weeks lying on my desk it's pretty flat, but not perfectly flat. It still has very slight ripples, but not enough to effect utility. I expect it will flatten out more over time.Material: It's made from two layers bonded back to back total about 1.7mm 0.067" thick. See pic of strap. The material is pretty soft and flexible. A strap is provided to secure it when rolled up so I presume part of the product concept is portability.Surface: There are two sides, one with a pebble grain and the other with a finer grain, the latter being better for writing. (see pic with penny) The material is fairly soft, so you will dent paper writing directly on the mat. The pebble grain side is less reflective. I prefer its appearance in general.Odor: I had a pretty strong odor when new, very similar to paste shoe polish. After two weeks it's much subsided, but I can still smell it if I put my nose the surface. I generally don't smell it working at the desk and expect it will dissipate even more with time.One minor cosmetic issue is there are broad longitudinal stripes in the material. See pic. It's not very noticeable but its there.I expect if this was placed on a nice flat surface out in the sun for a day, it would flatten and the odor would dissipate pretty quickly.It works well for my purpose so I'm giving it 4 stars. It might be more or fewer for you.

I bought a desk at Ikea that had a bit of a cheap feeling top surface and I was brainstorming to see what I could cover it with because I loved the desk but hated the surface. This fit the dimensions of the top perfectly and I keep it in place using some thin double-sided tape at the corners and edges (not noticeable from the top). Now I have a fantastic PU-leather surface that seems to hold up pretty well durability-wise and is easy to clean. No issues with hot coffee mugs or anything either!

This is a nice sized pad. I bought this one and a smaller one for another desk. The smaller one is perfect. This large one would not lie completely flat, slid around and would develop indentations if something of weight was placed on it i.e. laptop or small monitor. I returned this one but kept the smaller since it isn't having the same issues. I ordered a different pad that is fine and stays in place better.

The color is good, but the smell is bad.
