Do NOT Buy
This was a complete disappointment as far as cookbooks go. I had read about this in “Martha Stewart Living” magazine so I was excited about buying this cookbook. It definitely was not worth the hype. There are only one recipe per state and they weren’t even cool recipes like unique or anything. Arizona had a “guacamole” recipe which is ironic since it’s not even popular there (born & raised in Arizona) Other states were so basic like fish dip and crackers for Alaska or Blueberry Muffins from Maine- a state known for their clam chowder which would’ve been more appropriate. This cookbook was written by a child I assume. Horrible, embarrassing, and not worth the money. Will never buy another book from Gabrielle Langholtz and you shouldn’t either.

Delightful and Delicious...
This children's cookbook is a visual and gastronomic delight. The recipes are easy to follow and the illustrations and photos are fun and engaging. Using this book to prepare different dishes with children and grandchildren is a wonderful way to explore the geography, history and regional charm of the U.S. The book includes notations indicating the level of difficulty for each of the recipes. Using this beautifully designed book is going to be a wonderful way for me to take my two grandchildren on a road trip around America, from my kitchen in Virginia!

Gorgeous, Informative
I love the idea of exploring the United States through regional foods. I suppose this cookbook is intended for children, and they will probably love it, but all of the adults who see it on my coffee table pick it up and become fascinated. I bought this book for a child, but I decided to keep one for myself and buy another to give. The drawings and photos are beautiful, and the recipes are great. I even learned a tip about making hard boiled eggs that I had not known before. Each state is introduced with an interesting one-page commentary that combines history, culture, and local traditions. A facing page illustrates local food specialties, and the following pages present a child-friendly recipe and photograph of the finished product.

Great concept, poor execution
I am not a review writer, but I was really disappointed by this product. I gave an extra star, because a lot of my disappointment came from the fact that I didn't realize this was a cookbook marketed towards children when I purchased it. Either way, it had great potential and I expected a lot based on it being a Phaidon book. As another reviewer mentioned, there's only one recipe per state. I have friends and family across the U.S. and I myself have lived in multiple states as well and the vast majority of these recipes are not representative of the states. I would have expected at least 5 recipes per state and recipes that use ingredients that are known from the state. I am from Washington and the Washington recipe is a dutch baby because supposedly they became well known in Seattle. I don't associate dutch baby's with my city at all. I would have expected foods that use apples, seafood, coffee (before I knew this was for kids), etc. This was a great concept, but feels like minimal thought went into the recipes themselves. definitely returning.

Great Cookbook!
This cookbook is awesome! We loved looking through and seeing the pictures, drawings, and fun facts about each state. A couple of the recipes seemed a little lacking (Chicago Dog, Popcorn Balls) that could have been replaced with more iconic foods but the others make it up the few disappointing ones.

Excellent, history made savory
I have never loved a book more and want to share contents with everyone and anyone. State information are facts of interest and importance. The recipes are so unique and you want to make each one.

FUN
I gave this as a gift to a Daughter-in- Law, and she is quite the gourmet cook, and she LOVES this book. She and my Son enjoy the stories, and she found a recipe that her dear mother had made, long ago, and she has had so much fun with the recipes. It's like a Foodie History Book.
