Better than a plastic covered charcoal filter!
I've been using a plastic covered charcoal filter system for a very long time. I've always hated that the plastic filters could not be recycled. These charcoal sticks are so easy to use and I can composted when they no longer filter! The water tastes just as good, an maybe a little better since I am storing the water in a glass container, not a plastic pitcher. My glass container is a bit smaller than what this stick can handle, but it's what I had. The sticks are a bit pricey compared to the plastic filters I am able to buy locally at a wholesale club. Now I just need a larger glass container, but that was my plan.

Doesn't Do Much
While I notice a slight difference in taste when I've used this item, my husband notices no difference at all. I won't buy again.

So far
I wish I had a method for evaluating the efficacy of the charcoal stick

Easy to use!
These charcoal sticks are such a lifesaver for me. I can’t stand the smell/taste of tap water regardless of Chicago has a great filtration system. I can’t go back after using these. So simple

Works well, but requires maintenance
I like this as a water filter, but having to remember to boil it every two weeks is a little more maintenance than I would like. I prefer a monthly maintenance filter.

eco friendly water filter
I bought a filter that can filter up to 3L, for a 1.5L container. It works really well, I feel safe to drink the water, and feel better that it's an eco-friendly choice than a plastic-encased water filter. I'll definitely buy it again for another water container. Just make sure to wait at least 4 hours before drinking from the jug for the filter to work.
