Holy crap this has been one of the most useful things I've ever purchased.
I bought this almost a year ago as a portable dock for my Switch when I'm traveling. It's much smaller and easier to pack than a Switch dock. When I first tried using it, I didn't realize that it also needs a Switch power cable plugged in simultaneously with the HDMI to work properly, and was worried that it was broken. But once I realized that it needed the power cable, it worked perfectly. Then I randomly tried using it in other ways and was very surprised by what it can do. I've used it to mirror the screen of my Android phone (which has a USB-C port) to various TVs using an HDMI cable. It also surprisingly lets me use my USB-A dongle for a gaming headset with that same smartphone. I'm writing this review as I just discovered that I can plug it into the USB-C port of my Lenovo laptop and extend my screen (and audio!) to a nearby TV. I'm currently using this adapter to play Hulu running on my laptop on a nearby TV while playing games on the same laptop.I travel a lot and this little adapter has routinely been one of the most useful things in my bag alongside an HDMI cable and a Switch power brick. I can play my Switch or smartphone or laptop on any TV, or plug USB-A devices into my phone or laptop via a USB-C port. It feels well-built and durable and has been a fantastic investment. I don't normally write enthusiastic reviews like this but I've been pleasantly surprised and I wanted to share the extra little things I've found it can be used for. Hopefully someone else finds it as helpful as I have.

It works
I use this to play the switch on a computer monitor and it works no problem. I don't really notice any issues with video or sound quality (but my monitor doesn't have sound so I use a bluetooth speaker). It's very lightweight for portability.

Used for Switch
My dock had went out to my switch. Didn't work on every TV but cheaper fix

If using with a Nintendo Switch, you must also bring along and connect your Switch's A/C power cord.
I wanted to use this for connecting my Nintendo Switch to a friend's TV, so that I wouldn't have to take along the Switch base charger/platform. I was able to make it work, but *only* when this also has the Switch's A/C charger plugged into the USB-C port. So it's nowhere near as portable as I had hoped. It means that I can still leave the plastic Switch base at home, but I still have to bring the (large!) Switch A/C power adapter and cord. And no - you can't just plug in your friend's random A/C-to-USBC power adapter. The Switch has some sort of built-in proprietary nonsense that *requires* you to use Nintendo's own adapter. That's how this HDMI adapter is able to "fool" the Switch console into thinking that it's resting on its base so that it will output video to the HDMI port. I realize that this limitation is Nintendo's fault, but this seller should mention it in their product description for full disclosure. I also used this adapter with my Samsung S10+ phone and it works beautifully for that. (No A/C power needed.) And I was able to use the other/larger (USB-A?) port to charge a 3rd device when I had an A/C adapter providing power to this device. The video output is good quality, but the device doesn't create much portability for a Switch. OTOH, if you want to quit using your plastic Switch base unit in order to prevent screen scratching from regular insertion/removal, this will fix that problem since you now only have to plug/unplug the USB-C cable from the Switch console. A useful device overall, but didn't meet my expectation for Switch portability.

Best travel buy
So we went to visit my mom over the summer with the kids. I let them take the switch so the can use it on the plane since it was a 12 hour flight. But I didn't want to run the risk of the cradle breaking in transit. I order this amazing little gadget that fit right in the carrier case. We got to my mom's house and we where able to plug I in right in to the TV and use the switch right away. Great product ,easy to use and light weight. I was even able to hook up my phone and watch the movies I had safe on it. Plan to get one for the kids rooms

Now I don't have to carry my Switch dock!
This is a small adapter that provides your Switch with an HDMI output, which is great because it means you do not have to carry the Switch dock with you on trips. The image quality etc. were all comparable to that of the official dock.In general this was plug and play, but it is a little fussy about what USB-C power supply it is plugged into. The official Switch one works great, but my efforts to get it to run off of a USB battery failed. Not a huge deal, but something to consider.

I mean it works and did the job. Just follow instructions.
If you dont follow instructions youre probably going to have a bad time. Otherwise this thing works as intended. It does suck that you have to have the usb c power supply to make it work but hey to fool the switch and engage the hdmi as best as possible it needs a little oomf i suppose. All in all it does the job. I got skeptical based off negative reviews. But it worked on our switch oled. I have also used it on a galaxy tab s7+ and it did pretty well. So there. Would like a better fit or slightly longer wire for it so it would fit under my switch stand bettter but yeah you get the point.

Works great until it doesn’t
It was working great for about half a year until suddenly it stops working. It’s not the hdmi nor the switch charger because they work with the original dock and individually. The item itself just stopped working altogether, doesn’t even act like it’s charging anymore. Disappointed because it worked great for a while.
