At first I started to return this item thinking I was ripped off because it looks and feels like aluminum. But I read some reviews, (by Jack Voltrade. Had to give credit), and found one that shows how to test if it is magnesium or not. Dip in vinegar, if you get a fizz, then it is magnesium. I did so and got a fizz instantly. I also had what I know to be aluminum, sitting around, and dipped it in the vinegar, no fizz. So this is the real deal.

These rods are exactly as described. I am using them to make batteries, and they serve my purposes quite well.There is not much more to say about them, other than that you get exactly what is described. It's a really good deal and if you have a use for magnesium rods I would highly recommend this seller.

I bought these magnesium rods for my BOB. I found that when you scrape them for shavings it works best as almost dust, I was able to scrape some short strands/shavings but they were difficult to ignite with a fire steel (i have a light my fire set). What I did was get a small plastic baggie and filled it about half way with the dust (in case I need it immediately as it is a tedious task) so I can just spill some out in my tinder quickly)Side note: you may want to drill a hole towards the end if you want to attach one to your ferrocium rod & strikerPS. Sharpie not included lol

try to extract, big Nurls of Flakes off this magnesium rod. and at-least a quarter size pile to spark wet kindling.I used the back of my 1/4" Thick Fulltang SCHF38 HCS knife it will produce big Nurls of Flakes.

See my review above for the smaller mag rods. These will be used for bigger fish. This will be an experiment jigging for some kind of fish. Maybe pike or muskie or salmon or lake trout. If it doesn't work for that, a different design for trolling.

These came in the mail within a couple of days and seem to be very well machined. I plan on using these as part of a fire starting kit for camping and hiking, so the fine finish doesn't mean that much for my purpose. They arrived in a vacuum sealed bag and are just as described. Good Stuff!

The rods are of Magnesium as described, not sure of the purity of 99,95% it should follow a quality certificate that approves the purity (that's why only 3 stars).It fires well with a intense white flame and is in deed Mg and not aluminium as someone else had posted earlier. ( FYI Aluminium has blueish flame).The easiest way to check if it's Mg is to throw some shavings in a glass of vinegar and it should react hydrogen.
