Damminix 27203 Tick Tube, 24-Pack

WORKS EVEN IN HEAVILY WOODED, WILD AREA!!!
I live in a heavily wooded area in the Ozarks and starting using these just last year. Controlled studies show a 90%+ decrease in the tick population when used, but I wasn't expecting anything nearly so dramatic at my place. It's 15 acres in the back-of-beyond, no lawn to speak of -- mainly wildflowers and grasses waist high, leaves left right where they fall each year, etc.I ordered from Damminix 24 tubes and then made up about 45 extras of my own with cardboard tubes cut in half from paper towel rolls. This didn't cover the entire 15 acres, of course, just the areas where I mainly walk and live. With nothing but wilderness for miles around, I wasn't even hoping for anything like the published results given for using these tubes on a manicured suburban lot, I was just hoping for some improvement and trying to be optimistic (although I suspected this was going to be a waste of time and money). But I am pleased to report that this stuff really works!!!! I was able to do only one application last year and missed doing it again this spring due to travel, but the tick population is probably down at least 75% in areas treated, maybe as high as 80 to 85%. My dog has had 4 ticks all season, compared to a half-dozen a week last year. The Frontline was killing them, but I would still find them dead all over the bed -- yuck. He's strictly an inside dog, walked on a leash along our dirt road twice a day and before the tick tubes he was a little tick magnet. Neighbors are reporting ticks just as bad as ever in spite of the horrible winter last year, and a recent gardening publication for our area lamented the fact that the severe freezes hadn't knocked back the ticks at all, so the rather startling improvement at my place can only be attributed to the tubes. So, I'm back this year to buy more -- lots more -- and also to make as many as I can to supplement. Don't hesitate to put these out later into the year. To target Lyme's you want them picked up by the white-footed mouse, but I had larger field mice stealing them right off my trays in early October last year when I was busy drying cotton balls sprayed with Pyrethrin (I found one's nest). I'm happy to supply the treated nesting material to all my rodent neighbors -- chipmunks, squirrels, etc. Although not the primary vector for Lyme's, they all carry ticks and I hate the little blood-suckers in general, not just the health hazard they pose. So this year I'm making a few larger tubes and even little boxes filled with the cotton balls to entice a wider variety of rodents.NOTE: Although it's easy to make your own, the Damminix cardboard tubes are heavier than what you'll get using paper towel tubes and so they throw better. This is very handy when trying to get them way back in the brush, so I'm quite happy to continue purchasing as many as I can afford and supplementing with whatever I have the time to make.

Totally overpriced--you are paying not to DIY. It is what it is--chemically treated cotten in a paper towel tube. If you will DIY then no need to purchase. (I didn't DIY this year and want a multi-pronged aporoach to tick management in my yard. This fit the bill.)

Used them for two yers and will use them again next year.
I have used these tubes the last two years at my farm. Two years ago we had a BAD tick problem at our farm.Used them in very early spring and the tick problem drop way down.We used them again this year in early spring and covered about 2.5 acres with 24 tube.I have been to worst areas at the farm for ticks in the past and so far this year no ticks. We have put no other poisons out for ticks so these have to get the credit. Our total acreage is 36 acres

A quality product and quite effective
I think tick tubes are a quality product, but one that can't be judged properly after only one year.I live on a large wooded lot in northern Virginia. Ticks are a very serious problem around here for people that garden. My wife and I, as well as a number of friends and neighbors have reported having symptoms like Lyme disease. Ticks carry Lyme disease plus a number of similar diseases. The main vector around here are probably deer and mice.In March 2018 I put down 24 tick tubes around my home. My wife and I did notice some reduction in the number of ticks we found on us. So in early June 2018 I put down 96 more tick tubes, both around our home and also in other areas over 100 feet from our home where we were gardening. We both noticed a decline in the number of ticks, but they were definitely not eliminated. In March of 2019 I put down 96 more Tick Tubes. My reasoning was this treatment is working, but probably requires a few years to reduce the tick population to a more tolerable level. During the summer of 2019 I found a few ticks on me but not nearly so bad as before the Tick Tube treatment. My wife didn't find any ticks on her in 2019!This winter my wife reminded me to order more Tick Tubes this spring. She is convinced that they are effective. We are definitely ordering more! As an estimate, I would say they have eliminated about 90 % of the ticks around our home and yard. This may be the limit to what I can expect from Tick Tubes, but I am very grateful for that reduction.

Works, what else is there
We live in CT and have a large tick problem. We are also the epicenter for Lyme disease. We have been in our current house for 3 years now and the first two summers everyone in the family found ticks on them about once a month from playing in the yard. This was just from playing in the grass at least 10ft from the edge of the yard, where you're not even supposed to be able to get ticks.Last spring I put out about 36 tubes on our acre or yard following the instructions to place them near mouse habitat like stone walls and wood piles, both of which we have lots of. And all last summer playing in the yard more that ever we had zero ticks on anyone. I refreshed the tubes last fall and just again this spring.A lot of people are complaining about the cost of these but if they work you will never look back. It seems like a quarter of the people I know up here have Lyme and once you see them deal with that for years you will gladly pay $100/yr to prevent it.

Seems to work as described
Have been putting them around the perimeter of our yard for over 2 years. Based on that I believe they significantly help reduce the ticks in our yard (note - they do not kill ticks as some other reviewers suggest). In CT we are over run with the little buggers. The squirrels and mice do seem to take the treated cotton balls from the tube. For that reason and that for the most part our kids and pets stay tick free I recommend these over spraying chemicals and other more drastic solutions. We do still check for ticks regularly and use bug spray if kids leave the yard.
