The EZSync CC2531 usb dongle enables a PC interface to 802.15.4 / ZigBee applications. The dongle can be plugged directly into your PC and can be used as an IEEE 802.15.4 packet sniffer or for other purposes. With the CC2531 USB Firmware Library available on the web you can develop your own software to utilize this part. To program the debugger, an external programmer (e.g. EZSync106 or CC Debugger ) is required. The USB dongle can be used as a reference module for prototyping of USB devices and for testing the RF performance of CC2531 with a small size PCB antenna. The USB Dongle can be used as a development platform for USB and RF applications. Dongle comes preprogrammed with software that lets the dongle operate as a packet capture device for the SmartRF Packet Sniffer. The CC2531 is Texas Instrument’s second generation ZigBee/IEEE 802.15.4 compliant System-on-Chip with an optimized 8051 MCU core and radio for the 2.4 GHz unlicensed ISM/SRD band along with built in full speed USB 2.0 compliant interface. This device enables industrial grade applications by offering state-of-the-art noise immunity, excellent link budget, operation up to 125 degrees and low voltage operation. In addition, the CC2531 provides extensive hardware support for packet handling, data buffering, burst transmissions, data encryption, data authentication, clear channel assessment, link quality indication and packet timing information.

A very capable low-cost Zigbee Sniffer, but does take some work to setup.
I ordered this to support qualification testing of a Zigbee Smart Energy product. In order to finish the qualification, a sniffer is needed to evaluate the responses to the test criteria. To share a couple learned lessons:1) This does not include a bootloader, so as the ad says, you must have a debugger to program any other firmware on the unit. a) I did not have a debugger and found a sniffing solution that does not require one as the unit ships with TI-developed sniffer firmware already loaded.2) The SmartRF software is descent and is probably good enough for Zigbee HA troubleshooting, however, Zigbee SE has an additional layer of APS encryption that the TI SmartRF sniffer software (has to be downloaded from the TI website) does not support.3) Search Github for a project ccsniffpiper which is a Python script that communicates with this dongle and pipes the data to Wireshark. a) I'm using Wireshark 2.4.1 on Linux and am running the Python script on the same computer. b) Enter both the network level key and link key by going to Edit->Preferences->Protocols->Zigbee->Pre-configured Keys <Edit>. c) Make sure to check TI CC24xx FCS format on Edit->Preferences->Protocols->IEEE 802.15.4.After doing all of this, I have a very capable Zigbee sniffer that supports the extra security features of Zigbee SE for $40. The unit came the next day as promised and worked right away. I'm happy with it.

No drivers available...
Nothing supplied by TI will give you a working driver. The device is detected in Windows 10 but the supplied drivers will not install. Waste of 40+ dollars.
