Easy to connect to plug wifi for custom Python control from laptop
Bought a Kasa tp-link plug with the plan to connect it to my laptop wifi and control it with Python. The Kasa plug has a closed app for phone installation only. Customer service was useless and they refused to open the app. I returned the Kasa plug. The Shelly PlugUS broadcasts its own wifi and has excellent wifi and access point configuration settings. The enclosed instruction sheet had all information required to connect to and configure the plug. I was able to configure and connect to the plug's wifi with the plug as an access point. Once connected, I was able to run Python programs to control the plug. Only downside is the wifi is relatively weak - can be used in another room from the laptop no problem, but can drop if the plug or the laptop is near any high emission source. This can be easily solved through positioning and I highly recommend this plug if you want to write your own logic (ON, OFF, Random, nested, situation or device specific, etc.) to control a device. Excellent build quality and good value for money.

Smart Wattage Monitor for Home Labs – Great Integration with Home Assistant
I purchased this device to measure the wattage consumption of my homelab. While I had an approximate idea of the overall power draw, I wanted to track peak usage and ensure the voltage remained stable "enough" for my equipment. This is an excellent "smart" alternative to a traditional Kill-a-Watt. It integrates seamlessly with Home Assistant and offers customizable settings for individual outlets. From what I can tell, it’s based on an ESP8266, and the firmware has received multiple updates—always a positive sign. The default Shelly App also retains a surprising amount of historical data, even if you choose not to link it to Home Assistant. Plus, it can be triggered and updated through Home Assistant, which adds a layer of flexibility.I appreciate how companies are embracing open-source principles—this device feels like a great example of that. It’s reliable, feature-rich, and easy to customize.TLDR:✅ Accurate wattage tracking with peak monitoring✅ Seamless Home Assistant integration✅ Regular firmware updates for the ESP8266-based device✅ Shelly App provides detailed historical data✅ Open-source-friendly design and customizationRecommendation: Perfect for DIYers and homelab enthusiasts looking for a smart, open-source power monitoring solution.

App interface and variety of functions.
Funciona muy bien con scripts. Puedo mantener la batería de mi laptop a carga media para evitar siempre esté al 100% y se dañe, aparte de ver los watts que consume.

Works well with Home Assistant
I got this to automatically reset something plugged into it by turning it off and back on. I have other Shelly devices, so this was a natural choice. I did not use the Shelly app to set it up, just the built-in web page. I'd have given it 5 stars if the setup process was a little smoother, but I got it on my network on the second try and updated the firmware from its built-in web page. Home Assistant took over from there, and this switch is now doing exactly what I bought it for.The power metering is very enlightening (as well as being a key part of my automation logic). I may buy more of these just to monitor power on other appliances, collecting all the data in Home Assistant.Home Assistant users will appreciate the fact that Shelly devices in general can be controlled locally, not needing to phone home to some cloud service. They will also be undaunted by any hiccups in the network setup :)People who just want to control Christmas lights from their phones might want to choose something simpler.

Gaggia game changer
I love it. It tells me when my Gaggia has heated up for 15 minutes and when I’ve left it on for 60 minutes

I need several engineers to install?
Many reviews here say easy to install on ‘home assistant’. Really. I get no guidance at all with the product. HA refuses to add it with ‘failed to connect’. The vendor website has pages of installation videos. I think that’s a pretty good sign that i should return it instead of spending the next week in that rabbit hole. It was an opened box, anyway. I wonder why.
