Arrived crazy fast!
Booked arrived in perfect condition and about as fast as I've ever gotten anything on Amazon. Was complete (including stickers) and to my surprise it was signed by the author as well. Quite an extra for an AB fan like me!

The Best 'Home Economics Food Class' Rolls On
...and rolls to a finish, I guess. I own Alton Brown DVD's of his shows and I also own 'Good Eats 1&2'. Anyone who wants to learn how to cook for themselves and for their family will benefit enormously from the knowledge in this series. Starting at the neighborhood 'Megamart', Alton tells his audience what to buy, how to turn it into tasty and nutritious "Good Eats" and why his technical recommendations work! As an example, which bacon do you take home from the supermarket display? How can you make it crispy? Why does frying bacon suddenly burn and how can that be prevented? Does all espresso coffee have to be dark roasted? Both techniques and recipes are 'first rate' for home cooks. This edition may focus a bit more on 'hyphen American' cuisine, like Creole Red Beans and Rice or Asian-American items or foods from the Latino culture, German-or Italian-American foods, but it includes plenty of staples like great cornbread and fried chicken. Alton adds things like 'grilled pizza' and other bread techniques. Powerful antioxident ingredients like Pomegranate juice show up (as juice and as 'molasses'); so readers are kept well up-to-date on trends and nutritional science. These topics are also hallmarks of the series. There are additional recipes from all the usual sections of the cookbook world of ingredients and I hope to try a good many of them before I am finished with the book. Fans of the Food Network show "Good Eats" will also enjoy the continued 'outtakes' photos and 'behind the scenes' information. The energy and drive evident in the first series carry through this product as well and it seems that this is a 'matter of pride' for Alton and his 'merry band'. Did I mention that Alton includes a bonus feature: his very own design for a 'sock puppet', complete with paste-on eyes, tongue(s) and mouth(s)? All of the whimsy that makes this series 'one of a kind' remains intact.

Absolutely awesome
As always Mr Brown makes cooking yummy and fun. He also makes it dummy proof, most of the time at least 😂.

Amazing for learning the science of cooking
This book is great! I love how Alton uses science to explain the cooking process because it helps me to be a better cook. I can understand why you have to do things in a certain order, which I feel not many books are able to do. The information is presented in an entertaining manner as well, which helps me retain it better. There are a lot of great recipes with substitutions and cooking methods included; this is a great book for anyone just starting to cook and trying to learn to cook!

Stuff I had missed
I love Good Eats and I am sad Alton has finally stopped making the show. I own all the DVDs I was able to find and the first 2 books have only a couple of episodes not on those discs. This book has several more. If you are like me and own the DVDs and use the recipes from there, you may want to purchase this book to round out your collection. Hopefully there will be more DVDs in the near future to fill in all the gaps.So far, my favorite book in this trilogy was the second one--it has the most useful recipes for me an my family and comes with a DVD of Good Eats shorts. As mentioned, this one also contains several "shows" that are not to be had on DVD yet. After having more time to look through recipes in this book that I am not already familiar with, I may change my mind and suggest this one as the best, but that's how it stands for now. Also, if you like Alton Brown, you may consider Mark Bittman. How To Cook Everything: Simple Recipes for Great Food is probably his most popular book, but The Food Matters Cookbook: 500 Revolutionary Recipes for Better Living is also very good.

If you liked the TV series, you'll LOVE this book!
If you liked the TV series, you'll LOVE these books. They are a great companion to the series and cover and expand on the concepts and recipes in the episodes. Well worth the price and a great gift for your Alton Brown loving friend or family member that likes to cook. Plus the recipes are great too. We've been using his brined turkey recipe every since we first saw it on the show and it's the best, most moist turkey you'll ever eat.

Gotta Love Alton Brown
Gotta love Alton Brown. I wish the structure was a bit more "normal" but then again, it is Good Eats and it is Alton Brown, so it does suit. I'd have loved if each book had come with the associated episodes on DVD as a good part of the joy of Good Eats is the visuals and methods illustrated during each episode. But well worth owning the full set that sits proudly in my kitchen cookbook collection.
