Originally released in July 1975, Glen Campbell’s Rhinestone Cowboy was the music legend’s first No. 1 hit on Billboard’s Country Albums chart, vaulting the already quite famous master guitarist and singer to household name superstar status. To celebrate the 40th Anniversary Edition of the classic, adding five rare and previously unreleased recordings to the remastered original album. Many of Rhinestone Cowboy’s lyrical themes reflected Campbell’s own life at the time, both personally and professionally. The album’s centrepiece title track and its second single, “Country Boy (You Got Your Feet In L.A.)” spoke to and through Campbell with messages of sacrifice and concession required to maintain a career in entertainment’s fast lane, which had brought him from Arkansas to Los Angeles in the 1960s.

Classic album with bonus tracks
I know Glen Campbell is said to be country but I always thought he was far more pop than country,. His music that has sometimes has a flavour of country. He has a distinctive classy smooth voice and a non country backing group This re-release of a classic album highlights what a great entertainer he was. Great songs on maybe his best album from his early career with bonus tracks. This release features fairly extensive and interesting liner notes. If you are a fan of Glen Campbell, this must be worth getting. A good album.

Still great after 40 years
Still great after 40 years! Bonus tracks are a great addition to one of Glen's all time great albums. Some less well known tracks add depth to the headliners.I'd build a bridge, is one of my favourites.

The 40th Anniversary Edition of "Rhinestone Cowboy", a Record Collector's Dream!
Question: What can be better than Glen Campbell's classic album, "Rhinestone Cowboy", that jumped to No. 1 on Billboard's Country Albums chart in 1975, with the title song's single hitting #1 on three charts: Country, Pop, and Easy Listening?Answer: How about a 2015 reissue on CD that has been carefully remastered and includes five (5!) bonus tracks, one being a previously unreleased song! This reissued and expanded album has been released as a 40th Anniversary Edition just prior to Glen Campbell's 79th birthday on April 22, 2015. One of the bonus tracks, "Quits", is a never-before-released song that was recorded during the original Rhinestone Cowboy studio sessions. Written by Danny O'Keefe, it is a heartbreaking song masterfully sung by the one and only Glen Campbell at a major pinnacle in his career. Joe Marchese (The Second Disc) describes "Quits" as: "A haunting elegy to a romance, it may have been too downbeat for the original album, but makes for a beautiful discovery here." Indeed, it is a fantastic discovery for long-time Glen Campbell fans as well as new listeners.A second bonus track, "Record Collector's Dream," written by the great Billy Graham had originally only been released on the b-side of the Campbell classic, "Country Boy (You Got Your Feet in L.A.)". "Record Collector's Dream" has never been available for purchase digitally or on CD in North America. If you love records, real vinyl records, you'll love this song with its fun play-on-words lyrics. If you are a fan of Glen Campbell's, you already know...he IS a record collector's dream. :)The "Rhinestone Cowboy" CD is accompanied by a carefully designed booklet with an essay written by Brian Mansfield that provides the album's history. For vinyl lovers, a 180-gram vinyl album is also available, but without the bonus tracks. (Most fans will want to have both the CD and LP.)Quoting Joe Marchese again, this 40th edition is "...a timely tribute to a timeless artist who paved the way for today’s pop-country crossover stars."

If you buy one Glen Campbell album this is the one to get
Though Glen had many hits before and after this album, none were more personal for him and I think it comes through loud and clear. And every single song is a gem too - it just flows perfectly from beginning to end. There were many albums in the seventies I've rated higher but few were spun more frequently on my record player than this one. Naturally I had to get this deluxe remastered version on CD, and it never sounded better!

Love the album, but two songs skip.
It skips on Rhinestone Cowboy, the most important song on the record. The condition was advertised as very good, so I'm disappointed, but I still listen to it anyway.

Don't settle for just "Best Of"
Glen Campbell at the top of his game, and not just a bunch of "best of" selections, but a full plate.

Glen is great and so are many of the songs
Many great songs--I don't think the expanded edition makes it any more worthwhile. You can't beat Glen.
