Ennio Morricone conducts Morricone - His Greatest Hits

Music? Great of course. Production? mediocre
With so many good anthologies of Morricone available, we can put up with a dud. Luckily it sells extremely cheap, so the price (as shown now) is right. This was released by Sony in 2016, but the recordings come from 1998. My first qualm, and it has to be that which affects the music, is the unfortunate quality of the soprano G.Bertagnolli. Not a good voice day, simply. Almost any other utterance of this incredible music (Once Upon a Time in the West) is better. The other two singers (of italian and Portuguese fame) are quite good.Production: The booklets read like you would in Hebrew. Page 1 is last... Page 19 first. Annoying and so silly, it made me lol.The sound is OK, but there are many other production where the sound is spectacular; so there. The whole program runs almost continuously, some tracks yield to the next. Not necessary; but not bad.The good? There are tracks that are truly rare! For completists, then.

Not like the Good Bad and Ugly
I thought this would be close to the soundtrack... but it was more a symphony version.

Disappointed in selection of musical numbers
I paid a lot for this CD, up but it contains mostly lesser known pieces. Not what I was expecting

Better than 3* but not quite 4*
Very good recording of one of the maestro,s concerts, good material selection, but could have been a little sharper, sounds a little dull, production ??

A COMPENDEUM OF MORRICONE MUSIC
I AM BECOMING A BIG FAN OF ENNIO MORRICONE'S FILM MUSIC. HE REALLY HAS HAD A BIG IMPACT ON THE MUSICAL SCORE OF FILMS AND, ESPECIALLY " THE SPAGHETTI WESTERN'S ". IT WAS A TREAT TO HEAR HIM CONDUCTING HIS OWN SCORES. HE INCORPORATES SO MANY INTERESTING MUSICAL SOUND EFFECTS INTO HIS SCORES, AND SOME TRACKS LIKE THE " ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST " WILL STOP YOU IN YOUR TRACKS WITH IT'S HAUNTING SOUND. I THINK HIS MUSIC FROM " THE MISSION '' HAS GOT TO BE SOME OF HIS BEST WORK. I FIRST TIME I HEARD OF HIM AND HIS MUSIC YEARS AGO, AND IT WAS FROM THE CD OF " THE GOOD,THE BAD AND THE UGLY " SO I WAS REALLY EXCITED TO GET THIS CD. HIS MUSIC DEFINITELY HAS A EUROPEAN FEEL TO IT AS WELL, WHICH IS A GOOD THING, AND THE ITALIANS HAVE SUCH A LONG HISTORY OF MAKING OUR WORLD A BRIGHTER PLACE WITH THEIR NATURAL MUSICALITY. LISA
