Flight, Volume One

If I'm disappointed is my own fault for not informing myself before buying the book! I thought this book was going to be about one character "the one on the cover" traveling around the world, but it isn't; more over because of the beautiful cover I was expecting it to be a mixture between Howl's Moving Castle and Secrets of Kells or something similar. Flight is a collection of short stories not related one to another, you may find more than one chapter of some stories within on volume. There are lots of different drawing styles and all of then are good, plus the stories are awesome my favorite was "The Bowl". I bought this for my 8 yr old sons birthday not really knowing much about. I thought it was a full length graphic novel but it turned out to be a collection of short stories.Once I looked through it I realized the stories/themes were quite grown up and I wasn't sure if my son would 'get' many of the stories. No matter, my son loved it and the artwork is incredible. Still not sure how much he understood but he loved it so much he wanted the second one for Christmas.I call these his special graphic novel books in the hope he takes good care of them, I'm sure they'll be appreciated for years to come.

The stories and artwork in this book are beautiful and captivating. Each story is really a journey into the imagination of its author, so each story is unique and brilliant in its own way. As someone who has never really been into comics or comic books this was a great introduction into the world of graphic novels and their awesomeness.

My son lost interest since each story is so brief. He didn't really grasp the simplicity, and as much as I wanted to, I honestly didn't either. Artwork is wonderful and it's a good addition to the shelf, but it's not as enjoyable as other books out there.

The is a nice anthology of several very talented artists. Kibuishi is a big favorite, and his colleagues fail to dissappoint. The visuals are stunning, and most of the stories are fairly compelling. There are a few odd ones, but the good ones more than make up for it.

Free Comic Book Day this year was on May 7, 2005. If you missed it, run to your local comic shop and see if you can still get the free issue of "Flight" that was given out. variety of art and stories all collected in one book, there is 8 volumes so far and all are wonderful. Some stories are strange and art in others is flat, but majority of tales are amazing, deep, emotional, and entertaining.

I had volumes 2-3 but not volume 1. Amazon was the only service that had this as an affordable price. it was excellent. The reason this did not get five stars is that it was delivered after hours and stuffed into my letter box rather than either placed at my doorstep or in the two baskets I have attached to my fence next to the letterbox. According to the delivery docket I was suppossed to sign for the this. I was there, inside the house but no knock on the door.

Se trata de un recopilatorio de historias cortas, de autores jóvenes que empiezan a publicar sus primeras obras, aunque se venda como un volumen de los mejores ilustradores de nuestra época. No es así, la calidad del contenido deja bastante que desear. Alguna que otra historia si tiene buen nivel, tanto de guión como de dibujo, pero en general el conjunto es más bien mediocre. Cuestión de gustos.

Flight ist eine Sammlung an Kurzgeschichten verschiedener Autoren/Zeichner, die sich im Themenkreis des Fliegens bewegen.Ich vergleiche das Mal mit einer Speisekarte in einem Restaurant. Selbst im besten Restaurant, wird es Dinge auf der Karte geben, die einem nicht so gut schmecken wie andere obwohl alles essbar ist.Manche Geschichten gefallen mir sehr gut, andere weniger. Es gibt sicherlich Comicfreunde, die an der Vielfalt an Stylen ihren grossen Gefallen finden und sich gerne auf staerkere und schwaechere Geschichten einlassen. Beim zweiten Lesen, wuerde ich ein paar der Geschichten ueberspringen. Daher: immer noch gut aber nicht herrausragend.
