*****UPDATE**** January 2023We still have this and it's still going strong. At this point my son is 9, and still occasionally gets inside it. It has held up to some seriously rough use over the years. It has, on more than one occasion, had FOUR entire kids inside it. I'd say it's a wee bit stretched out now, but the seams have held perfectly. It even got a couple small holes (from an excited dog) that I haven't bothered to repair, and they haven't stretched/torn or gotten any larger. My son for quite a while would climb into this, and then add as many throw blankets and pillows as he could and hang out in it. Often his little sister would climb in too. It felt like a weird replica of the Jan Brett kids book, The Mitten. In summary, after about 4 years of hard use, it's still in almost perfect shape. Totally worth the buy. I'm still recommending it to friends with sensory kids.Original review >>>I really like this - as does my sensory 6 year old.My son is 48" tall and this fits him now, but also has room to grow. He's always trying to climb between the sheets and mattress on our beds, and also likes to wrap himself up in blankets. He used to climb inside pillowcases when he was smaller, as well as try to wear his sleeping bag everywhere.I figured this would be a nice addition to our sensory toolbox for him. It's easy for him to climb into, there is a tag on an outside corner so he uses that to tell where the bottom is for his feet.We have, however had one issue with it.The smell!I noticed a few other reviews mention it, and yes, there is one. It is strong! It smelled sort of like a super strong vinegar smell. As a result, my son refused to wear it at first because 'it smells like vomit' (his words).I put it in a large mesh laundry bag, washed on warm with tide free and clear detergent (with a regular clothing load) and dried on the cotton setting in the dryer. It washed up just fine, the mesh bag protected it from getting snagged or damaged. But the smell was still there!!So I washed it a second time, and this time I hung it to dry outside overnight (it's still nice warm weather where we are). That got rid of it.Not a huge deal, exactly. But given the market this is made for, it's somewhat annoying that they don't address it somehow. Either by dealing with it on their end before sale, or sending it with instructions to wash it a few times first so your sensory and therefore sensitive kid doesn't just reject it out of hand. I've docked a star for this. Because yes, a couple washes and it was fixed. But it was unpleasant and unexpected and it required a bit of talking to even get my son to wear it again after that (because again, sensory little human).Other than the smell, it's good thick lycra fabric. He doesn't overheat and can breathe just fine with his head inside. The seams are serged with a stretchy thread, and overall it looks like it'll hold up pretty well to a very rough and tumble kid. I'm happy I bought it.Also, to anyone who is a sewer, you can totally make this, or the pillowcase style. I got this one because I wanted to try it out. But I will buy fabric and make a second for my son and another for his little sister. I'd say between cutting and sewing you'd whip this up in about a hour, it's a straightforward sew.
