The Adventures of Pinocchio

A delightful read!
What an engaging book! Finally I know the real story, not just the Disney movie (which is great, love it, but wanted to know the backstory). This edition explains a lot of the author’s meanings- for instance, what it meant in his time to “be a donkey”. For anyone of any age who loves Pinocchio, this is a very enjoyable book.

A really fun read
This book is a case study of the impact of Disney-led commercialism on cultural icons. And, it takes hermeneutics to a new level with multiple footnotes on everything from modes of address to comments on literary style. All this wrapped up in a fun read that adds new meaning to an old tale. A must read for children and pets that want to grow up to be good citizens their parents can be proud of.

Hardcover in the future?
Glad to see a new translation of one of the most translated novels in the world. I hope that down the road we get to see a hardcover edition.

Not just for children.
Very interesting, but you must read the forward and all of footnotes to really understand the climate of the story. Not the Disney story— that’s for sure.

Enlightening
The Adventures of Pinocchio was fully entertaining and filled with all the moral lessons a child should learn and retain as an adult. The insight provided by the notes into the author’s views of his contemporary Italy were truly enlightening. I loved this book.

Better than the original
I'm reading Pinocchio for the first time - apart perhaps some illustrated version when I was a child - both in Italian and in English. Sometimes I have to look up this wonderful translation to fully understand the text. And the notes are very accurate and sometimes revealing. Who knows nowadays that corpo in truth meant belly, as the translator writes and comments on? And it's worth while reading, it's a masterpiece!

A very good translation of the true Pinocchio
A good read for adults and children with an insightful look into human nature and the development of human values. Forget Walt Disney and see the true Pinocchio and his author.
