They work great for a truck tool box strut replacement
For those of you looking for a strut replacement for your truck/vehicle toolbox, these work great. They went on in a matter of minutes and definitely keep the lid from closing. If fact, almost too much, but I like it that way.For those of you who don't know what a strut is, the definition states that a strut is "a rod or bar forming part of a framework and designed to resist compression." Do NOT look at the "BAD" reviews of the operation of these struts and how "complicated" they are. It's a simple mechanical tool to help open/close doors, windows, etc. If you do not know how something works, it's not the products fault and you should probably look up a video. The interwebs have all the knowledge. Now, I agree that these do not come with instructions, per say. To mount them on an existing assembly like I did, you would take a small flat head screwdriver, or equivalent small tool, and pry the clip out just enough to take the pre-assembled hardware off. If what you're working on doesn't have existing ball-hitch style mounts, then you would just use screws, or equivalent hardware, to mount the already assembled strut mounts to whatever it is.

Beastly
Small and strong. Well built. To figure out how much lifting strength you need, place a rod/firm stick at the point of lifting, with a scale under it. The amount of weight pushing down, at the mounting point, is how much lifting strength you need. Don't just measure at the far edge, as the leverage/strength needed to lift is much higher at the hinge.

Apexstone 200N/45LB Gas Struts
These struts are awesome if you know what you are getting into and highly recommended if you know what you're doing. As others have stated, they do not come with instructions but every lid is a different size and weight- so standard placement instructions wouldn't work anyway. I used one on each side of my storage container, the lid weighs approx. 40lbs and these struts have no problem doing the job. If you aren't handy, hire someone who is or grab a buddy who is and some beers. I'm not being a jerk, just trying to save you some frustration.

safety is number one priorty , wear safety glasses
Arrived right on time, Half the price of local stores Used on single lid pickup tool box , took less time to replace the old struts to the new ones than it did to prop open the lid.. only tool used was a small straight screwdriver. Look for a small notch in the ends, its in line with the rods, gently pry a little to remove the mounts it comes with, just pull them out . it doesn't take much to open ,so be careful , DON'T take the clips off by trying to slide them up over the ends. . after removing the mounts, put the screwdriver down, line up the holes to the secured mounts ,(the ones on your tool box, or what ever you are doing. and just bump it on with your hand.

Good for my camper van project
I needed this for a project on my camper van to assist in lifting the bed platform. I used one, and it was not enough on its own, but two did the trick. I am not sure it will easily lift 45 lbs as advertised (it seems less to me), but the lift capacity seems to vary greatly according to the angle at which the supports are installed. There is a little art to getting the supports in the best position, but it eventually worked out well for my project.

No instructions or hardware
No harware. No instructions. I’ve never mounted gas struts before. Every self-help video I’ve searched says to “refer back to the instructions that came with your struts.” So, I’m in the dark here. Not happy.

Works perfectly for 1995 Eurovan Winnebago Full Camper stove/sink cover
I looked at the struts for my 1995 Eurovan Winnebago Full Camper on GoWesty and BusDepot. I thought the prices were kind of high and I prefer ordering stuff from Amazon because of my Prime account shipping convenience, etc.The original struts were rated for 40 lbs. These are very close at 45 lbs. Compared to the originals, these struts are slightly shorter when compressed and slightly longer when extended. This just means they are completely compatible.I installed them in under 10 minutes using the OEM attachment points. They work perfectly. These struts are half of BusDepot and 1/3 to 1/4 the price of GoWesty. A very good value and the quality is great. It lifts like a dream and is also easy to close back down.

Cheap and dangerous, broke on first use
The bracket hardware the strut mounts to is made of cheap metal and bent under the force of the strut first time I closed the lid. Seriously, the first time. Then when pulling off the strut from the bracket’s ball end to return, the one of clips in the strut ends broke. This is really dangerous. This little clip is what keeps the strut from falling off the bracket and your door/lid from closing on your head. The lid over my garage wash-up sink is well within the weight limit of these
