Photo Kano [Blu-ray]

Good romance show.
Kazuya Maeda doesn’t want to stand out. When his dad gives him and older camera, he decides to take it to school for some “photo chances”- which range from scenery to mostly girls. His new camera and new photography club membership send him on a small journey of self-exploration. Based on the dating simulation game of the same name, it is a multiple plot line anime starting with the gift of the camera and going along each of 7 girls’ arcs. Four episodes are spent on meeting the girls and finding out their personalities, and then each girl gets an episode except for Haruka who gets two. First time viewers may find it disconcerting when the new arc starts in the next episode with a new girl without much warning. If you like school romances this is a good show, with comic relief provided by the other members of the photography club. Spoiler alert the last episode is a sis-con episode.

Something of a cultural extension--
Boy attracts girl, girl falls for boy, and then we do it over again with the same boy but a new (if not improved) girl. I thought this was a boy learns to relate to girls and dating kind of box that held the story, but it turns out that a lot of women like this, and teen girls outwatch teen boys for this kind of story. The boy is fully established and not made too perfect, and the girls have both good points and flaws, but for the female audience this is the girl getting to see the boy as related to the type of girl she is. Thus she can "see" herself and understand that her flaws might actually be strong points, and that it is not a case of "only one boy will ever like you" but instead "you have the ability and the materials to forge your future on the anvil of life."I was a shade taken aback that mothers, aunts, older sisters, and even a couple grandmothers recommended this to an early teen girl to give her perspective in her attempting to go from a girl to A GIRL and create her own future. On the other hand, trying to think of it as a teaching tool for girls to understand that the same guy can be attracted to different types of girls, and that real life is about everyone being different and having to make your own way through the maze-- and finding the type of person you need in your life is not "boys only like one kind of girl" but that the relationship is the vital aspect of the pairing, not her appearance or hobbies or social standing.Looking at it from that point was interesting, but the siblings who are not really siblings roll of the dice apparently is more Japanese based than Euro-American, but somehow is a fun "what if" for a lot of the female audience. It was entertaining, it deserves a nine out of ten, and that translates to five out of five here, but it is not perfect.Which is what the characters in the variations of the story have to deal with. Nobody is perfect, but some people are worth fighting for. For a group of girls watching it the lesson is "you're more like her, I'm more like the third one, but it isn't how tall, how busty, or how pretty you are, it is how the two of you work together that tells the tale."

No option for Dubbed English, but that's fine with me.
Some are obviously not going to like that there's no option for dubs, but I'm completely fine with that.I prefer subs over dubs.A brief synopsis of the anime is that it is a fairly basic romance based anime, not much harem aspects to it, it's more like it was translated from a dating sim game and thus the story lines are more story arc's of each female heroine of the protagonists choice. It rotates between female characters for about three episodes each, and the pacing is perfect. It does not feel overstayed or bloated in any way, the animation is nice, not to much overreliance on CGI and the animation that are there are gorgeous looking. I'm not particular about OST's so that's up to those that care to determine how it is, but if I had to describe it, its nice, melodic, and relaxing.I'd describe this as defiantly a end-of-summer-vibe ridden anime, it even takes place in August pretty much, so expect a relatively relaxing and not too dramatic anime with some slight ecchi-ness thrown in to spice it up slightly, but not to the point its embarrassing to be seen watching this. Or so I tell myself.Overall its a perfect anime for the end of summer, and you get the gratification of feeling like nobody loses in this anime, by the end. Also has a nice little twist you wouldn't expect, a little 4th wall break, that doesn't happen in very many anime's like this. This one feels special, and it's worth the price I got it at (about 40 dollars CDN).
