"Grate" for hard cheeses
Perfect for hard cheeses like Parmesan or Romano. Does not work well on even sharp cheddar or any of the usual block cheeses. They are too soft, and the shredded cheese simply packs on the barrel, making it impossible to get out and use. However, it is 100% what I wanted for shredding Parm for pasta dishes for myself.

Not consistent with earlier versions. And only right handed. And also, very fragile and breakable.
Updated. Still a one star review.I did not return because I could not find anything better. Used three more times despite loathing it. And then it broke. Thin pieces of brittle plastic inside drum. Why is it so hard to find a cheese grater that is easy to use and durable? What I hated. My microplane inserts do not fit. And it did not include a coarser grate, which is what I use to grate almond paste.Returning. No good. And I HATE it with a PASSION when kitchen tools are not backward compliable. HATE it.

Great product
I give it five stars that because of the good quality of the blade and the entire design. The blade is very sharp and the body builds sturdy. One thing that I should give alert to other consumers about this grander is that not entirely built with metal. So far I am very satisfied with my purchase, although it is not entirely metal as my expectation.

Broke after 18 months... but then I just bought another one
I loved this cheese grater - in fact, I ranked it at 5 stars for a long time. The reservoir is nice and big so you don't have to cut a tiny cube of cheese, like you do with many other rotary graters. The blades were super sharp, which allowed me to make fluffy mountains of grated Parmesan effortlessly - and the grate is very light so the cheese melts easily over your pasta. The inside of wheel is large enough that cheese doesn't get stuck inside, like many other graters.Alas, it broke after a year and a half - the plastic housing surrounding the blade wheel broke off. Even though this is the shortest lifespan I’ve ever gotten out of a rotary cheese grater, I actually bought another one.. It's pretty inexpensive, so 1.5 years of use out of a $19 product isn't so bad. Let's face it - it's a plastic cheese grater, and grating hard cheese, especially if the cheese is cold, is hard on a mostly-plastic tool. There are lots on the market, and I haven't found one that I love that also lasts very long. So for now, this one it is.If, however, this one breaks even sooner than a year and a half, I'll be back to drop my rating.

the plastic snapped and the product is now useless.
broke in less than 4 months of use. When exerting pressure on the handle for a Parmesan cheese, the plastic snapped and the product is now useless.

Good until it broke.
This grater is easy to use and makes a nice fine grated cheese. It broke shortly after the no return date however. The design is such that the grater is held in by four thin plastic posts. Those all just snapped one day with regular use.

The handle will break, but you *can* fix it!
This thing makes fluffy clouds of hard cheeses will minimal effort. But, the plastic shaft will break in normal use. (See other reviews here for those sad photos)Ours lasted about 10 months. The photos above show a fix stronger than the original made without glue. What you need for this repair: 1) 3/4 inch 1/4 x 20 stainless steel set screw (I got a pack of 2 from Home Depot for about $1) 2) Corresponding thread tap hand tool 3) Vice grips 4) Sheet of rubber or similar material 5) Allen head wrenchProcedure: 1) Wrap the broken off piece of shaft tightly in the rubber sheet 2) Grip wrapped shaft piece in a vice taking care not to bend or deform the plastic 3) Use the tap to cut 1/4" x 20 threads inside the core of the shaft piece 4) Use the same tap to cut threads straight into the handle side of the shaft (which you can hold in your hand) 5) Insert the set screw into through both to hold the pieces together. If you are lucky (or very careful) there will be no gap between the two pieces when they are assembled.I found it necessary to use a dremel tool to shave the broken ends until that would mate without a gap.Note: If you do this *before* the shaft breaks, the whole process is *much* simpler. You won't need anything but the tap, the set screw and the wrench:1) tap the inside of the shaft2) screw in the set screw. Done!It would cost the manufacturer < $0.50 to make this improvement. Are you listening Microplane?

Rallador
