About the Author वरिष्ठ पत्रकार और पूर्व सांसद कुलदीप नैयर भारत के जाने-माने और व्यापक रूप से सिंडिकेटेड पत्रकार हैं। उनका जन्म 1923 में सियालकोट में हुआ और अपने परिवार के साथ बँटवारे के समय दिल्ली आने से पहले उन्होंने लाहौर यूनिवर्सिटी में शिक्षा प्राप्त की। उन्होंने अपने कॅरियर की शुरुआत उर्दू अखबार ‘अंजाम’ के साथ की और कुछ समय तक अमेरिका में रहने के बाद लाल बहादुर शास्त्री तथा गोविंद बल्लभ पंत के सूचना अधिकारी भी रहे। नैयर आगे चलकर ‘द स्टेट्समैन’ के स्थानीय संपादक और भारतीय समाचार एजेंसी यू.एन.आई. के प्रबंध संपादक भी रहे। वे पच्चीस वर्षों तक ‘द टाइम्स’ के संवाददाता रहे और बाद में वी.पी. सिंह की सरकार के समय इंग्लैंड में भारतीय उच्चायुक्त भी रहे। प्रेस की आजादी के लिए लड़ते हुए इमरजेंसी के दौरान उन्हें कैद कर लिया गया। भारत और पाकिस्तान के बीच बेहतर संबंधों और मानवाधिकारों पर उनकी भूमिका ने अनेक देशों में उन्हें सम्मान और प्यार दिलाया। एक दर्जन से भी अधिक पुस्तकों के लेखक नैयर के साप्ताहिक स्तंभ पूरे दक्षिण एशिया में पढ़े जाते हैं|

The title should be "How was press affected in Emergency"
This book revolves mostly around how and why the press was affected during emergency and mentions the more important emergency period's issues in a paragraph or so.However, one at least gets to know why Indira Gandhi applied emergency, which I don't think many in India know. This book can at least be credited to explain that.The reason behind Indira Gandhi applying emergency needs to be discussed in the country and can be key to judicial reforms. There can be very interesting debates on the moral correctness of applying emergency by those who would be aware of the contents of this book.

Costly but Informative book.
Overall book is interesting and I enjoyed to reading it. But When I received book, I felt that It's not worth of 225Rs.Content is good, but some incidents required more description.Writer is tried himself to unbiased, but little bit his inclination towards opposition side.This book is best book to understand of the region of Emergency.When I am watching TV debate, BJP spokesperson always saying that look back to Emergency time. So, I had curiosity to know about, what actually happened.I will recommend this book to all of them, who has interest in politics and India after Independence.This book covers the incident of start to end of Emergency.

Writer himself is a famous journalist who witnessed all the events during emergency and was jailed as well. All the incidents shared in this book are either the first hand experience of writer or that of other persons involved / effected in Emergency.

Nice book tell the modern history chapter which is still hidden to Indian.Though we had reached on MOM. But still need to reached to know the fact why emergency was imposed on Us?????
