Great for Younger Kids & Lovely Artwork!
Bought this as apart of our Darwin and Evolution unit study from Build Your Library. This is a nice biography of Charles Darwin for younger readers. Works great as a read aloud. Only concerning detail was near the end, the book seems to suggest that Darwin was still religious near the end of his life and claimed that Darwin thought that evolution somehow strengthen his belief in a god or strengthen the power of god? Not sure where this comes from as it seems to contradict all other sources (including Darwin's own children) and other biographies. So it was just a confusing part to add to the story. The book goes through his childhood, college years, voyage around the world on the Beagle and the publication of The Origin of the Species. We really loved the illustrations! The artwork was very well done!

Excellent story with gorgeous illustrations
I was captivated by the cover and story of Darwin, of which I didn't know a lot about. I found this book delightful- light and easy reading with an interesting story arc and more depth than I would have expected from an illustrated biography.

Lovely illustrations, text a little brief
I bought this book for my 9-year-old son after I heard an excellent radio program about Darwin's life and thought that my son would enjoy hearing about it. He did enjoy this book and especially liked the illustrations, which are certainly excellent. Overall, this makes a good introduction to Darwin, either for a reader of around 8 to 10 or to be read to a younger child. My problem with it is that because I bought from Amazon, I didn't get to look at the book first, and actually it is briefer than I was hoping. The actual story takes up 36 pages, with more than half of that as illustrations, so there is really only space for a brief run through of the essentials, without the titbits that made the radio show I heard so funny. This isn't a criticism of the book, just be aware of what you are buying.
