Richard Scarry's Best Word Book Ever (Giant Golden Book)

Pictures with the words were very important as the child gets older. This book can also enhance the child's experience with words.

My family loves Richard Scarry books, at least three generations at this point!

My son loved this book when he was a little boy. I bought this for a shower gift. If you like Richard Scarry, you will love this book

The book i received was older and more worn out than expected for being listed in very good condition. However, this damage was mostly to the cover. The inside of the book was in very good condition. I liked how many words this book teaches and I purposely bought an older book because it had thee garden section and I love to grow flowers! I just wish similar topics were organized together.The sections of words in this book are as follows:The New Day - covers getting ready and dining table items.The Rabbit Family's House - covers the different names for each room in a house and furniture.At the Playground - covers children games and playground equipment.Tools - covers typical tools as well as some for woodworking and construction.Farmer Bear's Farm - covers farm animals and basic equipment.At the Airport - covers basic types of flying machines, parts of a plane, and some airport equipment.Toys - this section seems a bit limited in my opinion. Plus, the doll is a stuffed bunny which may be confusing.In the Flower Garden - very pleased with this section as contains poppy, zinnia, crocus, daffodil, pansy, aster, petunia, etc.At the Supermarket - the pickle barrel is a bit outdated.. and wish they used hot dogs instead of frankfurters... but the fruit & veggies sections are very good. Does not list limes or bok choi though.Mealtime - covers more table items and some basic dishes. The Neapolitan ice cream in its square shape might be confusing.Boats & Ships - Covers many more machines than the airport page did on planes. Does include bow and stern.Keeping Healthy - covers items in a first aid kit, at the dentist's, and at the doctor's office.The Bear Twins Get Dressed - covers clothing... the name of pocketbook for a woman's purse is outdated. Only lists pants, but not shorts.At the Zoo - covers animal namesDrawing and Painting - covers how to mix paint colors and different mediums.Numbers - covers 1-20 with images.Music making - covers instruments though i doubt the comb and tissue paper is used that often these days.In the City - covers stores, vehicles, and basic features.A Drive in the Country - covers some things you might see along the side of the road like a log cabin or farm.Holidays - covers the basic holidays and some of the items represented for each. Oddly missing Thanksgiving.At School - covers school supplies and basic classroom layout.In the Kitchen - covers a number of kitchen and laundry room items.Buildings - cover the main types including pyramids and windmills, but not barn or house or cabin or igloo etc. as covered elsewhere in book.When You Grow Up - covers jobs. milkman is outdated. Does not contain scientist or anything to do with computers. Also does not have mechanics or plumbers etc.The alphabet - letters a-z with images.Things we do - covers a lot of things a child might do from dig to go out.Work machines - covers basic construction vehicles. not a lot of words on this page.Cars & Trucks - basic types.. not specific into coupe or sedan or anything like that.Out West - covers stereotypical characters, shops, and items.Shapes & Sizes - shapes was terribly lacking. Round instead of circle. No rectangle only a square. List cone which is 3D shape but no other 3D shape like cube or pyramid. Then does opposites in sizes like tall/short with images.The baby - covers family names and basic baby items.At the Circus - covers the basic act types and animals.Firemen to the Rescue - covers basic types of vehicles and equipment. The look of the vehicles is outdated especially the ambulanceTrains - goes over the types of train cars and other train related names.Birds - another of my favorite sections. Includes puffin, quail, heron, vulture, etc.At the beach - covers names of animals, some basic equipment, and sites.Houses - covers basic types including igloo and tent, but no teepee.Making things grow - seems a worthless page to me.The Weather- i have no idea why this page contains foxtail grass... or a toadstool... but it does have basic weather types like rain, hail, etc.Clean-up Time - disjointed page to me with glue, nails, and sponge etc.Seasons - one page for each season and lists animals and things to see/do during those months.Little things - also have extremely small images. WOuld have been better if images a tad larger.Parts of the body - should have use a human not a disproportionate bear whose legs are too short to really point out the difference between a thigh and hip.Bedtime - covers bath time and going to bed.The last words of the day - covers animal noises.... and states they are all saying good night.

This book used to be available in English and French or English and German. I gave it often as a gift. Sorry it no longer exists - was a wonderful book.

I had this book when I was a kid. I’ve either lost it or given it to someone when I grew up. I got my second one as an adult, just to have it. But I also gave it away when I moved a few years ago.Then a few days ago, I could not remember the word, whisk, to save my life (yes, I’m getting old and taking both Prevagen and Neuriva). When I Googled it, all I got were “mixer” and/or “hand mixer” and I thought how I wished I had that word picture book with me. So after getting the correct word, I ordered the book right away.I immediately opened the book and looked for a whisk in the kitchen pages. They had an electric mixer, eggbeater, food grinder, and even a flyswatter but... No whisk! What?! Nooooo!!! Oh well, so I had to draw one in…I cannot help smiling every time I open this book. I remember as a little child looking at every little detail to see if I've missed something before.Our two youngest grandkids are now 3 and started reading the alphabet and easy words. This will be a great book to go over together when they visit us. Obviously, I need a refresher!

A mí niño le encantó el libro. Tiene 2 años 6 meses y está fascinado con las ilustraciones . Potencializa mucho su imaginación.

Per me i libri di Scarry sono i più belli per i bambini. Lo raccomando ad adulti e piccini. Stupendo!!! Acquistato per una bambina di 10 anni che sta imparando l’inglese.

Lo he comprado para mi hija de 2 años.Tras leerlo con ella me he acordado de que lo tuve yo cuando era pequeño (tengo 47), y me encantaba!Las ilustraciones son bonitas y divertidas. A mi hija le encanta fijarse en todos los detalles (que hay muchísimos) y plantearme preguntas realmente graciosas y difíciles de responder a veces... :-)También es una ventaja que sea en inglés ya que sirve también de repaso y descubrimiento de muchísimas palabras que está aprendiendo gracias al libro.Todo el libro son escenas "cotidianas" en diversos escenarios de un mundo "real" en que conviven amistosamente toda clase de animales como ciudadanos ejemplares. Nada de ciencia ficción de ésta que hay ahora para niños que no la entiendo ni yo.Recomiendo todos los libros de Scarry (también compré la colección de 10 libros) porque en mi opinión son totalmente atemporales (aunque se vean en ellos objetos "obsoletos" que los niños ya no reconocen, por ejemplo el teléfono no-movil y la tele "gorda") y las ilustraciones son simplemente geniales.

Just as I remembered it

I had this book as a kid and now my son does. Some things are a little outdated but I didn’t anything inappropriate. Still holds up!
