RACOON SG300 24Bit/96KHz USB Decoder DAC tube amp Black

This is the only inexpensive tube headphone preamp that I could find. I love it so far as it does exactly what I need it to do for an office mini system. I have it plugged into an SMSL SA36 and they work together well. They should they are made by the same company SMSL. I'm going to change the single tube out with a Tung Sol made tube and see what that does.

I bought mine thru Massdrop , It has okay sound a little too heavy for my taste,Clear sound but sound is heavy. When this DAC gets hot it has a loud and annoying hum and sounds like the morse code.Such a disappointment.

Originally acquired online from another website for its headphone specs. That was over 4 years ago! Decided today to pull it out and looked the specs over again and noticed that it is a little more versatile and can also function as a preamplifier. Have a vintage 45w tube amplifier ($1600) that was rebuilt and placed in storage (2010, no less) and initially used another small passive preamplifier by Schitt which is also well-received.Back to today, the Raccoon was exchanged after using the other preamplifier for nearly a year and let it warm it up for an hour. Wowww! The tubes add warmth and depth that I didn't hear before and the clarity is definitely better focused. Called me impressed. I have an ensemble of headphones that I will be testing soon with optimism. P.S. Using older Fiio x3 with line level output for head unit and single driver custom floorstanding speakers with 7" hempcone units.

I bought this Racoon SG300 DAC tube amp to drive my Beyerdynamic Custom One Pro and they both go along very well, the bass is tight and punchy not boomy and yet the mids and vocals stay prominent,warm and clear. I have compared the sound of it with GoVibe Vucan VM, GoVibe Mini, Fiio, Cayin and Mook, none of them sound as clean and warm as the Racoon SG300! I am shocked! I'm very happy with this tube amp because not only it sounds good it also looks very sleek in anodized matte black.One thing about the solid aluminum volume knob is that it's so perfectly machined and too smooth so i wrapped a few nice blue little rubber bands around it for better grip. This is a really powerful amp. Unfortunately there isn't too much specifications out there but they can definantly drive higher ohm headphones. Dac isn't the best but works well if you're just streaming music or not playing anything past flac files. No "tube sound" here. It sounds like a solid state because of the hybrid design. No high low gain so you will def hear static if you are using low impedance earbuds and wont be able to control the volume well. Main thing I loved about this is the fact that it hasn't been any drama. Just plug and play since I got it and working great. Looks good too.
