Art of the Le Mans Race Car: 90 Years of Speed Hardcover – November 15, 2013

It is now one of the best Le Mans books I have in my small library. It picks out a number of cars across the decades of the running of the famous race, and gives a precise compact story on that particular car and how it came to be there and its results in taking part. And it is not always cars that won Le mans that are discussed, but also vehicles that for a particular reason stood out in the race. The colour photos are absolutely brilliant, clear and insightful, of cockpits, engines and bodywork that leaves little to the imagination. Between telling the story and seeing the photos, I can sit this book on my desk and pull out a few 1/43 scale Le Mans model cars from the drawer, take up a coffee and dream. Nearly as good as being there. All I need is some noise and the smell of burning rubber and oil. A great little investment.

I bought this primarily as a picture book and was not disappointed. I also learned some things not covered in 2 other books on Le Mans that I had read, particularly driver's comments. Great job of conveying what a handful the original Porsche 917 was to drive: big HP before a good understanding of aero.

Well done, good photographs and well written. Though, I could have used more technical data and more pictures of the engines. The historical bits were good too, I didn't know many of the stories.

I love Le Mans Series and this book is amazing with beautiful picture and technical information about the vehicles.

Great book with wonderful high quality photographs! You will find almost all of the great racing cars that became legends of Le Mans. A lot of interesting facts too.

Stunning pictures, I just wish there were more iconic cars like the Mazda 787b.

The key word in the title is 'Art'. If high quality photos of beautiful cars have you drooling then this is the book for you. The text is good but what it is really about is the pictures and they do not disappoint. Many of the most iconic cars ever built and raced are shown from every angle possible and show the development over 90 years.

Brilliant photography and a great selection of cars. A must have for the fan of endurance racing, race car design/aesthetics, and automotive photography.

Bought this for my son-in-law for Christmas . . . avid Le Mans fan for years so I was taking a chance but he absolutely loved it.
