THE FOREIGNER DESCRIPTION The story of humble London businessman Quan (Chan), whose long-buried past erupts in a revenge-fueled vendetta when the only person left for him to love - his teenage daughter - is taken from him in a senseless act of politically-motivated terrorism. In his relentless search for the identity of the terrorists, Quan is forced into a cat- and-mouse conflict with a Irish government official (Brosnan), whose own past may hold clues to the identities of the elusive killers.

Fine work by everybody, worth the money and the time to watch twice
Other reviews tell story, action, etc. I would say only that Chan has captured and worked every which way with his aging body and chops to produce a character weary in grief, with nothing to lose and one thing left to do. It is violent, full of betrayal twists, and the fight scenes look effortful, deadly, and not about choreography but dead serious death in the offing as the main guy goes from foxy warnings to sheer survival ploys. Heartbreaking above all. Good, worth it, see it twice to really track how everybody screws everybody in both senses of the word.

Exciting and thrilling - it got to me
I was looking for a Jackie Chan movie to pass the evening with. I have always enjoyed his martial arts techniques, the amazing stunts and the simple, fun plots. I found one movie that seemed to fit the bill but the dialogue was dubbed and it seemed to simple for me. It must have been one the very earliest. So I skipped on to another one on the list: Foreigner. Even though I don't like Pierce Brosnan I like Chan enough to compensate.First thing that struck me about this movie was Jackie Chan has become OLD. !He is over 60 - not as old as me, but - old enough to be slower and not able to perform all the artful stunts and masterful, daring escapades he was famous for.Second thing that struck me was that terrorists kill innocent people, including women and children and here they were doing it with absolute disregard for the common people who are not involved in their agenda, legitimate though that agenda might be.The suffering they portrayed got to me. Jackie was in a serious drama and I thought he carried it off very well. I believed in the character he portrayed: a doting father who was too old to get with modern culture of the young in England and so protective of his daughter whom he felt compelled to shelter from harm at all costs.Brosnan played his part well: that of an old, ex-IRA killer who now made a career of protecting his beloved Irish people from the horrors of murder, bombings. betrayals that he had be a part of in the past, I hurt when Jackie lost her and lost his will to go on living, the feeling that life made no sense anymore.Old and burnt=out and just wishing life we could have some peace. When Jackie had to get into it with professional killers, hand-to-hand fighting and face-to-face shooting he acquitted himself well - as well as an old man with all those years of martial arts training and discipline could. I found the fight scenes believable, not cartoonish like so many modern action films. He tolerated the pains and dealt with the wounds as he was trained to do.I replayed some of the scenes more than once to get the buildup to the action and to try to understand how it was that Jackie was from China and had been a killer for the Viet Cong in Vietnam, just before and during the time I was there in the Marine Corps. I knew guys like him over there who left the communist side to join with the U.S. armed forces. Fortunately he got out. Unfortunately he lost most of his family to pirates and storms at sea and he did not ever get over it. I never got over Viet Nam either. And I did not lose as much as he did.I could feel Jackie's pain - the pain of a strong man who does his best and still fails - fails to protect those he loves and has to live with those memories and is so hardened that he could even blow up more people, so disciplined he could go on with his chosen mission to bring justice, get revenge, on the people who killed the only child he had left. And at the end, when the dust settles and bleeding stops there is a woman. The plane Chinese woman who has been there all this time, waiting and worrying and devoted to him. And then just maybe there is reason to go on living - in her arms.Yes, this movie got to me.

Jackie Bourne, the elder years
This was a different kind of film for Chan, and I liked it, a lot. There's nothing new here, old man's daughter gets killed, old man doesn't like it, old man implores cops to catch her killers, they don't, old man takes matters into his own hands, turns out old man is a bad dude, enter twist, enter craziness, enter pointless doublecrossing, enter tear jerking ending. Fin.The ending here is more "feel good" but you get the point. Regardless, without spending a bunch of time writing a thesis length review for a movie that really deserves a simple "it's worth it"... I'll say as much, it's worth it. If you're on the fence, and you can handle Jackie Chan playing an aging Jason Bourne's Asian Uncle, you won't be disappointed. Mr. Chan can still dish out action when he wants to, he's a compelling actor, and I liked the plot and characters for the most part.Solid 4/5, I should give it a 5/5 comparing to the other movies that have come out lately, but I reserve that for films that genuinely deserve it or get a solid seal of approval family veto on my arbitrary harshness.

Shanghai Soon?
The Hong-Kong-born-British-citizen-IRA-revenge thriller you have always been waiting for. The trailer for this looked really good, and I was not disappointed. Jackie Chan deftly plays the father of a woman who is killed in a terrorist bombing (no spoilers, I promise) who sets out to "find the bastards who killed my daughter" as the saying goes. Pierce Brosnan is terrific as the former IRA/Sinn Fein leader turned peaceful bureaucrat to whom Chan's character turns to find answers, and of course in the super-secretive world of the New IRA, none are coming. That is where it goes terribly wrong for Brosnan's Deputy Minister for Irish Affairs, as he drastically underestimates Chan in ways that would spoil the plot if I revealed. This is really a two person cat-and-mouse game but the supporting cast of English and Irish stalwarts is great - the main event is Man v. IRA. You can take a guess who loses. Pretty violent, so if you don't like that avoid this film. But, if you can stomach it, it is well worth the effort.

This movie knows what it's about
There must be 100 revenge movies based on the action hero avenging his daughter. This might be the best one. There are well developed characters and a plausible plot line. There were even a few of Jackie's trademark moves. But unlike earlier Chan movies, there was no comedic element to this, just one really pissed off Chinese guy going after the bad guys. It all worked very well, worth the watch.

Good action with a RICH story alongside it! WOORRRRRTTTTTHHH
i dont give movie reviews often but this one deserved it. it deserved the review, the 5 stars, and the purchase. I dont regret a single penny on this flick. I personally wished i watched it in theaters after seeing it through here. You know a movie is good when it has you thinking in the end and not leaving the movie during the credits just yet. Its story had me interested from the beginning to the end. Please support, purchase, and give this movie a try.

Glad I Bought the Movie
Well written, with a good plot line, and very well acted. No weak performances. I want to say that Jackie Chan's performance was unexpected, but I think that's because I've only watched him in comedies. He has way more opportunity to show a range of depth with this character, and I think that he does that well. Pierce Brosnan gets a chance to be more forceful than I think I've seen in the past. Will definitely watch this again.

Fabuleux !

Love This An Could See It Ten Times. More.
At sixty years old which was used in the movie quite a few times about Jackie Chan age the man still have the chops.to kick butt in a very young manner I must say. the old sing sing Irish-Mob plays out between the British an him.an Jackie is caught in-between.. but this is one man that’s not giving up his fight for Justice. even if it kills him.this movie “The Foreigner” is slow but not the slow you're thinking of. it takes time to delivery the story an when it does look out.the action is first rate and it has that much energy to be the top rated movie for action no doubt.Love This An Could See It Ten Times. Picture quality is excellent, with a perfectly natural color palette
In The Foreigner, humble London businessman Quan's ( Chan) long-buried past erupts in a revenge-driven vendetta when the only person left for him to love-his teenage daughter-is taken from him in a senseless act of politically motivated terrorism. In his relentless search for the identity of the terrorists, Quan is forced into a cat and mouse conflict with a British government official(Brosnan), whose own dark past may hold clues to the identities of the elusive killers. Picture quality is excellent, with a perfectly natural color palette, that exhibits balanced saturated hue, such as the natural earth tones in the countryside at a Belfast estate or urban city areas and office spaces. Hues are warm and rich with spot colors that pop. Flesh tones appear accurate throughout. Contrast is nicely balanced with deep blacks and revealing shadow delineation, that creates effective realism in the darker scenes. Resolution is excellent with fine detail exhibited throughout in facial features, hair, beards, clothing, and object texture such as on vehicles and buildings. This is a well-executed presentation that creates natural and realistic imagery, for a reference visual experience. The DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 channel soundtrack is well crafted with a balance of dynamic intensity, such as explosions, gunfire, hand -to-hand combat, and more nuanced sonics in interior settings. Atmospherics are also quite realistic, and sound effects often intensify the action scenes supported with strong, deep bass extensions in the .1 LFE channel. The orchestral score is also dynamic with targeted energy boosts. The music spans wide and deep across the soundstage and extends aggressively to the surrounds in all four surround channels. Dialogue is consistently intelligible with good spatial integration. This soundtracks energy builds with each twist and turn, for an effective and immersive experience. The Foreigner is a truly unique revenge flick with a fresh perspective. It takes all the typical cues from the genre and twists them just enough to feel new, giving it it's own voice. Some of the storytelling prevents us caring about some secondary characters But where they are lacking, Jackie Chan succeeds in a role that could be tiring. Chan gives what is his most emotional performance ever. Recommended.

LOVE THIS MOVIE!!
Jackie Chan's character is older and quite different than what he usually portrays. His acting is superb and the expressions of sorrow and pain touch your heart. Pierce Brosnan was a nice surprise.Took off 1 star for the profanity.Fast action. Quite the story!
