Style meets ventilation for total comfort in all-mountain applications in the new Smith Session MIPS Helmet. This all-new cranium coverage keeps your noggin on lock down with a combination of Smiths Koroyd technology and MIPS, shielding you from impacts both direct and oblique, so you can charge through rowdy rock gardens, while staying ventilated as you weave your way through technical switchbacks to the top for round two. And smith doesn't hold back on the good looks either, with a modern and sleek style that falls neatly between the previously loved Rover and Forefront, giving just a little more coverage than its cross-country cousin, but with less bulk than the enduro-ready Forefront. Since your crashes rarely happen at a straight-on angle, MIPS addresses the specific pressures of an oblique, or non-direct impact, by separating the outer shell from the inner, MIPS layer. In the event of an angled impact, the outer layer slides across the MIPS layer, dissipating rotational force to reduce dome deformation, which is often responsible for concussions and long term damage. Since the impact of mountain bike crashes tends to happen at angles other than 90 degrees, this added element of protection will likely come into play if you take an unfortunate digger. Backing up the MIPS technology with a bit of Smith's own work is a layer of Koroyd protection. Koroyd is what Smith is calling the funny looking layer of honeycomb tubes that runs beneath the outer shell and more traditional EPS foam. It's made of thousands of tiny, extruded co-polymer tubes that absorb impact but have a fenestrated surface that allows for a level of breathability impossible to achieve with solid EPS foam while absorbing a claimed 30% more energy. Plus, it's pretty cool looking, especially in Smith's mix of contrasting and complementary color schemes. For total comfort, Smith equips the Session with 15 optimized vents that channel air in, and AirEvac at the front edge that sends cool air und...

Nice helmet, but sizing runs small
It’s a good looking helmet, and feels solid. The construction is good, and the pads look like they are comfortable. But....After measuring my head, I ordered the medium thinking the size would fit well. That’s what my two Giros are. The medium on me feels a little smaller, and sits higher on the head. It’s almost like my head is in-between sizes, and I will need to order the next size up:

Pretty good for light use
Pros: Super comfy, well ventilated and feels light when you wear it.Cons: It does not work well with goggles (100% Racecraft) at all. Doesn’t cover the back of my head as much as I expected. The padding is very thin snd not very absorbent. On hot days, I constantly get sweat in my eyes or in my glasses even with a halo sweat band which doesn’t happen with my other helmet (Bell Forty)

The Photo for this helmet is very misleading and I am likely going to return it
I used to have one of these helmets but with the honeycomb was all the way across the top of the helmet. They really made this one cheaply(no better that a FOX F8 that costs 50 bucks) and it only has the honeycomb just on the side not much to really help with a good fall. I liked the one I originally had which made my buy this one from the photo. So Dont be fooled by the photo Smith tried but failed on this effort in my honest opinion.

Sits on top of your head rather than snug to it.
It’s decent, 160 though is more than it’s worth. It sits higher on my head, less snug than I like. I will eventually buy a different helmet that sits better/lower on my head and covers more of the back. I’ve been in two falls with it and it did protect my head and it is very light also the color and design looks cool however wearing it is another story.

Great helmet
So far so good. Very comfortable. Did catch my annoyingly long pandemic hair once or twice, but nothing crazy.
