The Historical Biographer s Guide to Cluster Research (The FAN Principle): Quicksheet (Evidence)

This is a fabulous guide to FAN Research - cuts right to the chase. This methodology can help with breaking down brick walls, as well as adding to your knowledge of research techniques. I highly recommend it.

A good short (4 page) introduction to this important technique for solving more difficult genealogy problems by tracing not just your ancestors but also their "FAN Club: Family, Associates, and Neighbors." The basic concepts are simple and intuitive, perhaps obvious once you are introduced to them, but this Quicksheet goes on to suggest how to apply them in an overall strategy to various types of records.

I have worked on my family tree since 1989. I took classes, studied books, watched Webinars, went to conferences - did everything I could to ramp up my ability to be accurate and work smarter not harder at finding my ancestors. The best investment I ever made was The historical Biographer's Guide to Cluster Research (the FAN Principle) by Elizabeth Shown Mills.

The information included on this is definitely useful, well-written and of value, but the print is very small, and I have to use my magnifying glass when referring to it. In the future, I'll either purchase the whole book, or just read excerpts online, but I won't invest in any more of these laminated aids.

I like the size & ease of use. It serves to remind one of precepts already known & easily forgotten.

He has not had a chance to use it, but it looks informative. That's all I can say about it.
