I got this for my nephew who is a bug hunter like I was when I was his age. He was keeping grasshoppers in jars and cups like I used to. This lets everyone see the bugs. The portable catch and carry container was a good idea. We usually let the bugs go after several days, though we keep the container livable with fresh leaves and water every other day or so. You'll have to get used to cleaning this thing out every week. That kind of fell on me, hmm..

Great bug viewer, but the dome doesn't separate from the base, so anything large that you put in there gets stuck unless you hold it upside down and rattle it about (not great if there's a live insect inside). The little bug catcher is a great toy in itself. You can catch and release without using the jug. It would be nice if it had a clear bottom, though.

I ordered this to go with a couple of preying mantis egg cases - I wanted to be able to see the baby bugs. It arrived promptly and properly contained the egg cases, and also the baby mantids - I was very happy to NOT have a zillion baby mantids roaming around my screened-in porch! It was easy enough to take the bug jug out to the garden and open it to release the mantids, too.When I ordered it, I thought "And we have a boy, so this will be fun for him anyhow. Bugs. Educational toy!" The boy is currently afraid of bugs (except ants, which he is willing so step on), so it's not so useful with him right now...

As soon as my 3 1/2 year old opened this he went right to collecting! In an hour we had caught several snails and 2 frogs. It helped him view the activity of an animal and taught him to be gentle with creatures and we learned about natural habitats. The magnifying glass isn't the clearest but didn't really matter :)

This is a gift for a 2 year old who is obsessed with bugs. It is small enough that he can, and does, carry it around with him and the domed shape makes it possible to "study" the bug from all directions. For my hands the carry band is a little tight, but for his hands, it's a good fit. We still have snow on the ground so the bug jug hasn't had a huge amount of use, but I have high expectations that it will be a favorite once the bugs show up.

My boy of 3 years old has been filling his pockets with rolly-polellies for several weeks. This is a much better temporary home than his pockets! It arrived a little late, even with Prime shipping, it took 4 days to arrive, but it has come in front of the praying mantis eggs I ordered for my garden. Hopefully we can hatch the eggs in this little bug home and then release them into the garden and watch them grow! The toy was a great deal for the dollar!

I don't understand why someone would make a bug catcher, that is aimed towards kids that you can't detach the bottom to get grass, leaves & bugs out. The only way to get stuff out is to shake it out the small little whole at the top. I could have bought something just as good at the $1 store. I am disappointed to say the least.

this item is kinda small but cute. my little boy enjoys collecting lizards and other bugs to put in it.

Bought this for my minibeast-loving son's 4th birthday. It was different to other bug pots he has and he loves seeing the beasties move from one 'room' to another. Great accessories that come with it too. The bug catcher is easy to use and doesn't harm bugs in the process! A big hit.

Great and grandson loved. Sturdy and well designed.
