Inspirational, excellent for beginners
I think this is excellent book for beginners, beautifully printed and very inspiring. But if you already have some experience in terraring, you may want to look for another book, this one covers the very basics.I knew absolutely nothing about moss terrariums and now I have 5 little wonders which I created after reading this book. One is going to be a birthday present for my friend, very inexpensive but extremely attractive - you can't even tell I've spent $12 on it! It really looks like $100 :)The only thing which deserves a star down is the fact authors didn't focus on figures much and didn't provide really good source where we can get them - which are, in my opinion, play very important role in designing the whole thing. That was those funny figures which made me buy this book, and inside I haven't found the answer where to get those and what to look for. The webstore they refer to doesn't offer anything like pictured in the book. I started to research this subject and found HobbyLinc which offers plenty of the figures in every poses imaginable. So if you are like me and want to create terrarium with good figures, look for railroad modeller's stuff. The brands which offer good figures are Noch, Preiser, Faller, Woodland Scenics.Authors also do not cover the scales of figures needed, so I was confused and ordered the wrong size first. Later I realized that figures in HO size/scale work best, but for smaller terrariums you may want to get even smaller sizes.I have also found out that moss doesn't like lime, and if you spray terrarium with lime-containing tap water, it may die. I am not sure if authors cover that thing in the book, so be careful. Some people suggest using rain water for moss. All in all, I wouldn't rate the book 4 stars just because of the figures, but since it's titled "Tiny world", I think it's crucial to provide sources where to get the tiny things and educate readers about figure's scales. I had to make my own research.I hope my advice will help!

Great reference book for creating terrarium scenes!
I liked this book so much that I went looking for tiny people figurines to create some small terrariums like those showcased in this book. HO train 1:87 accessories had what I was looking for. I also used my hot glue gun to make some water features. As well as natural cork bark to make Rocky Mountains. I thought this book was unique to any other book on miniature terrariums that I have read. It is one that I have read and referenced many times already while making my own. Loved this book. It will remain as part of my library and I suspect will get a lot of wear from being referenced continuously.

Cute photos, sparse information
This is a cute terrarium book, not a serious terrarium book. Some examples to clarify: 1) It is heavy on pictures rather than explanatory text--the pictures are lovely and showcase how the authors have fit miniature figurines into their terraria. 2) There's a checklist of "things to do" before you go searching for moss that includes "wear boots" because one of the authors lost a shoe in the mud once. 3) They discuss geographic variation in species that are suitable for terraria, but don't have a distribution map or other useful information--again, the layout is lovely but the detail is sparse. 4) there's practical information (e.g., use dry sphagnum to prevent bacteria/fungi from getting in your terrarium) in the book but absolutely no science to back it up or provide explanations. I realize that this book wasn't meant to be scientific but I was hoping it met a higher bar. I read through it in about 45 minutes and learned very little.

Terrarium knowledge a-plenty ... with a small exception.
A fun, kitschy book packed with knowledge on putting together terrariums using moss and other items and adorable minatures told with gorgeous pictures. My only complaint is that while it goes into great detail about plants, it barely says anything about the minatures and nothing about how they got them in such interesting poses, which is what drew me to the book to begin with. So while I am sure I will find it useful, I will have to go elsewhere for my minature info.

There's also not as much variety as I'd like to see
Very cute and informative - at least for moss-based terrariums. There's a bit about succulent ones, but the majority of this book is for moss-based gardens. There's also not as much variety as I'd like to see, but I still call this a good purchase since it's quirky and cute. If you're wanting a lot of info on many types of terrariums, the different kinds of care and setup however, this probably isn't the book for you.

Excellent guide to learning how to create terrariums, with a lot of inspiration!
This is a great little book. It gives you great ideas on creating your own little worlds. It also gives a good, but brief introduction to the basic kinds of moss you might be using in your projects. It does give you a lot of information that is vital to creating terrariums. The photographs are generally good, though some are a little blurry or poorly lit. They do show, in most cases, how the arrangements really made all the difference in the various scenes. The terrariums they use in the book are wonderful!

Perfect first book for the beginning terrarist
Love the book and easy instructions. Beautiful photography. I would have been happier with more detail in the moss section, but still gave it 5 stars. My son and I made a cute moss terrarium and were inspired to make a rock road and added Sir Topham Hatt in his blue car as a nice final touch. I have referred to this book multiple times and would definitely recommend. I usually kill plants without even trying, yet our moss terrarium is thriving two months later.

Tiny worlds come to life
Tiny Worlds are exactly what you'll find in this book. I bought it for my daughter, who loves plants and all tiny things. This book inspired her because not only does it depict terrariums with plants, but small people and other accessories are included in the scenes. It really inspires one to want to create a tiny terrarium. Beautiful photography; fun to browse.

Lots of nice pictures and good ideas to get you started
Interesting book but does concentrate on moss only terrariums a bit too much. Lots of nice pictures and good ideas to get you started.

A great resource book
This lovely book was an easy read and very informative. I keep it beside me when planting my new terrariums. The pictures are beautiful and show everything I need to do to make a pretty, themed tiny world. My latest was a 15-inch rectangular glass centrepiece in which I planted four succulents, added coarse sand on top and six golf players. One was perched on top of a piece of lichen on stone, looking for his golf ball. There is an alligator, which is too big for the size of the HO scale figures, walking out of a pond. Silly but eye catching and I love it. I highly recommend this book for its information and lovely photos.
