SLAYED TO THE RHYTHM
Re-live the 1970's+1980's again with slade on this great dvd collection. The biggest hits videos are here as well as some live performances. Some of the reviews make the picture quality out to be poor but it's very good video quality most of the time with the exception being 'Far Far Away' which looks about 200 years old. Commentary's from the band can be listened to over some of the songs but you have the option to disable this in the menu. WARNING-The performance of 'Merry Christmas Everybody' has the demonic Jimmy Saville as host to the song. Overall a very worthwhile respective of this band.

They were very accomplished musicians and Noddy's northern voice was stunning
So i was in my 2nd year at school when this was released and had a profound impact on me in every way possible, my music teacher had also anounced that Tony Blackburn thethen Radio 1 DJ got married for the first time so you can guess the year if you are a ripe age 🙆♀️

The Very Best of SLADE (DVD)
This is a BIG improvement on the 'Wall of Hits' VHS tape (which didn't even include 'Mama Weer All Crazee Now' & 'Cum On Feel The Noize'), but this is still a wasted opportunity. The songs that have been added to 'Wall of Hits' don't have any commentary whatsoever. Also, there are MANY ommisions or inferior videos included! Here are just some that definately still exist in the archives:* There's no early pre-fame footage. Great footage exists of Slade during their skin-head phase, performing 'Wild Winds Are Blowing' & 'Martha My Dear' on 'The Alan Price Show' in 1969. Essential viewing for real fans!* Get Down & Get With It. Two great promo videos were made for this (with the outdoors version being particularly memorable), as well as a nice performance on '2 G's & The Pop People'.* Look Wot You Dun. Again, a memorable promo video exists for this.* Mama Weer All Crazee Now. Probably their best early promo video exists for this song (though the TOTP footage included on the DVD is good too). Another nice alternative would be the electrifying late 70s 'live' performance they did on 'Supersonic'.* Skweeze Me Pleeze Me. Apparantly no footage exists from this, but I'm sure they could have compiled something specially for this DVD with a bit of effort. The BBC TV documentary a few years back used dubbed 8mm footage for a clip of this song.* My Frend Stan. More interesting than the promo video is the TOTP appearance with Noddy wearing Lennon-type glasses!* Cum On Feel The Noize. The TOTP performance here is from the December 1973 Xmas Special. Far superior is the performance in April of that year, with Dave Hill wearing a Cleopatra-type head dress!* The Bangin' Man. Rather than the late 1975 'Supersonic' version on the DVD (which features an inferior rerecording made specially for the show), they should've included the great 1974 TOTP performance.* Merry Xmas Everybody. Despite what it says on the box, this is NOT the December 1973 Xmas TOTP performance. They've instead used the December 1974 TOTP performance with the band in their white 'Flame' suits. The Xmas 1973 performance faded out during the show's closing credits, but the earlier 1st December 1973 performance would've been better. The 'Wall of Hits' tape included an 80s performance instead!* Gypsy Road Hog. Possibly their last truly great single, a fine performance from 'Supersonic' exists of this.* We'll Bring The House Down. This was their 1st top 10 hit in 5 years, yet it's not on here! As well as a dull promo video, they did this on TOTP.* Lock Up Your Daughters. Another daft ommision, & another song they did on TOTP.* All Join Hands / Mysterious Mizster Jones / Seven Year Bitch / Do You Believe In Miracles. GREAT promo videos for all these 1984-1985 songs exist (& probably other songs too). They're on the double CD, so why aren't they on the DVD?The ideal solution would be a 2 DVD set, with ALL THE HITS (& more) PLUS alternate takes on one disc (see the great DVD available on Dave Dee & Co!), & a LIVE 2nd disc, featuring concert material throughout the years. As well as a 30 minute live French TV broadcast from 1971 (which admittedly duplicates most of the songs on 'Set of Six'), also in existence are a 1 hour concert from San Francisco 1975, & footage from a Dutch festival in 1981 & probably more besides.Buy this for the great footage & music it includes, but be aware that it is far from complete...

GREAT (if you haven't already got it !)
Don't get me wrong - I LOVE Slade, and have done since 1972, but as a long-time fan, this DVD was a let-down. I couldn't wait to purchase this, but was disappointed to find that 75% of it was the 'Wall of Hit's' compilation I bought on VHS 14 years ago, & the 'commentary' from the same. The live section is excellent - but WHY was 'Born to be Wild' faded in the middle ! If you don't have any Slade product - get this - you'll LOVE it !! It seems so ironic that the only Slade member pushing this product (Noddy) is the one largely responsible for the fact that we'll never see the guys on stage together again. What a tragedy !
